The 2017 season is almost upon us and my first thoughts are of 03(97) / Mr Rutland as he was usually the first back on or around the 17th March and heralded the start of the season.

Sadly 03(97) is no longer with us but it is nice to think of him and smile knowing his legacy will live on as we now eagerly await the safe return of all the regulars and also new returnees.
A safe journey to all.
I am not sure where the platforms are as I have not been to the Egleton side of the reserve for a long time. I do remember the platform on Lagoon 4 where 32(05) used to visit and I think there was another perch on the far side of Lagoon 4. As for Lagoon 1 I cannot remember where the platform is.
Lagoon 1 platform.
I am told that this platform, currently being used by 51(11), is on the left end of Browns Island. So far he has not attracted a female.
As I suggested this means that the platform is visible from the main AW centre at Egleton.
Birdies LG DU update.
MaryGK said:It would be great if there was another nesting pair on one of those other platforms. Hopefully Chris will report again on the situation there.
Yes it would be great and more so if 3J returned :-) But either way, I do hope he attracts a mate this season and also 30(10), who claimed site B last year if he is at that nest again.
A while ago, when away from the house I thought I had posted the news that Clarach Blue 2R(13)f is back, and has been seen at Rutland, but clearly it did not post!! Herewith the proof.
Let's hope she finds her way to Lagoon 1, and Blue 51!

Many thanks for the post Sheila - it's good to see her but she looks so slender . Hope a male takes up with her at Rutland and gives her a good large fish
Great news about Clarach! I too hope she finds the handsome 51(11) Did he not have a partner last year 3j? They were disturbed by Egyptian geese and abandoned the nest.
You are right Cirrus looks like she could do with a good meal!
How very sad Willow :(
I would have thought that this photo of Clarach that Em's has used in his Update is one that was taken of her while she was a juvenile at DYFI, and not taken at Rutland just now.
Maybe I am mistaken but her feathers look like the feathers of a juvenile in this photo.

Yes, I agree, it does look like a Dyfi photo. There is no info from Rutland about it that I can see, so I guess Dyfi used their own. It looks elongated too.
58willow yes, Blue 3J(13)f had paired with Blue 51 at Lagoon 4, and laid at least one egg before they (an inexperienced pair) were chased off by a pair of Egyptian geese, and the nest was abandoned. Blue 51 stayed around for the remainder of the summer, but I think Blue 3J disappeared. She was seen at Glaslyn on 7 April.
