Quote: " Dai Dots would be a perfect match for Blue24!"
You know that and I know that, but THEY don't seem to know that. Which is why we/they need a wise ole osprey who is a professional "Matchmaker" down there to get them straightened out.
Just trying to throw some wee humour into the situation. I do truly hope with all my heart that we don't again see a nest of abandoned eggs. That is almost sadder than seeing them kicked out. But again I am humanizing or even "fairy tale-izing" and that seems to be when our tears start.
Just an update.
Was up in Aberdeen last week and will also be up and down over the next few weeks.
Dropped in at Lochter and yesterday afternoon at Balgavies Loch but no one at home at either nest but will be looking out next week at both and a few in Ythan River Valley one the ancestral home of Green BF (Balgavies Male).
Off to LOTL this afternoon to see both LM12 and LF15 now re-united. Last week only saw the male on his own.
First hand reports are always appreciated, especially any with pictures.
JUNE - Do you think Dai Dot is still with us and if he is where did he go last summer after flying off injured early in the season. Yes hope we see him.
There already is a wise osprey on the Dyfi Estuary and he is pretty good in his judgements whether we like it or not.
JUNE don't be sad at events you do not like at any nest. In the next few weeks we are going to see a few dramas some you may enjoy others you do not including maybe some birds not returning. I do like the events all of them as its part of my learning curve into ospreys. To me there is NO SAD or HAPPY event.
I always say at this time of year I looked at the skies to see if they returned. As time passed us by some did some did not but someone else moved in from far away.
You may recall in my very early years I served on loan to the USS Saratoga in a conflict area (1972 will give you a clue) and I used to go up to the flight deck from the engine rooms and a famous saying I counted them all out and I counted them all back. Aircraft that time now Ospreys.
I failed to find and read Keith's 7:54 post before I posted at 9:o1. Seems KEITH that you were doing a little romanticizing of your own. Very unexpected and amusing. So we helpless humans, for all our nest building and camera placement, will sit back and watch while our adored osprey do what ospreys do.
As to Dai Dot, I had not formed any opinion as to his present whereabouts until you asked the question. I had just hoped that we would hear news of him that he had returned after some UNsuccessful adventures last year.
We were told after not hearing from him for a while that he had successfully started a nest nearby, then we were told that probably was not Dai Dot after all. Then the injury. Unfortunately I cannot keep all the details in mind as our friend did so this is all fuzzy. The way you put it, it seems unlikely that we will ever hear from him again. What happened to him last summer after his injuries.? Did he recover & migrate? or perish from his injuries.? Where was he when Blue24 needed help? I don't know the timing to any of this and some of my questions I think remain unknown to his general public. I started a page for him in my notebook, but failed to keep it updated.
Captures of EJ at home in the lovely golden setting sun. Maybe half an hour ago.
I left my computer for a while and the scene has changed. EJ has left the nest, presumably for a night time perch in a tree or maybe on the limb below the nest. The night lite is now on, but there is still enough natural daylight that the trees can still be clearly seen in the background.
Good evening all June your capture of EJ in the golden evening sun is beautiful!
Keith you are right maybeB24 does not find Dai Dots a suitablepartner even though nus humans adore him!
Evening, All. You may or may not know that the people at the Dyfi Osprey Project are planning to take down the 2nd nest on Monday. I assume that Blue 24 will fly off but I also imagine that she will probably return once the work party leaves. She seems very attached to the main nest and seems determined to have it, and if Glesni does not return I expect Blue 24 will accept any male who joins her on that main nest. I remember that Emyr said there were no reports of sighting Dai Dot after he flew over the Dyfi nest when we saw evidence that looked like he had been injured and it remains to be seen if he is spotted this year. Of course, I hope that both Monty and Glesni return (no surprise there, many have become very attached to those two!), in which case, I also hope that Blue 24 finds another nest site and a mate, any mate! But as Keith says, the Ospreys will do what Ospreys do. With luck we will see a pair, any pair, on the Dyfi nest!
Kind regards, Ann
