Happy New Week!

I'm sending love and strength to OG (Original Goldfinch) and to Eagle-Eye. Hoping for her rapid recovery.

I hope everyone has a great week!

  • Good evening, all.  We had a great time at Minsmere - I now need to somehow sort out a thread or fifty from the 800-plus photos I came home with!  Limpy thinks I get carried away.......who, me?

Our herring gulls are red listed birds.  Think about that the next time you hear some flaming idiot calling for a cull of them.

  • The promise of Spring, LINDY!

Not you, never, CLARE. We get to see the fruits of your labours:-)

Youngest family now back at home in Elgin, together with a coffee cake that I made this morning. Son in law and I had a good conversation about my gardening jobs. I've decided that I am going to use OHs greenhouse to grow tomatoes etc. A project and I do need one.

  • I hope you can get some help with the garden, Heather. I know your OH did the pruning and heavy jobs. A good idea to use the greenhouse, I look forward to hearing about your tomatoes!

Bet that coffee cake will be appreciated......

  • Our Clare has been to Minsmere....

The birds were waiting there. They knew that she was coming,

    But they really didn't care.

They carried on with preening, they kept on feeding too.

But the ones who still felt frisky, felt like it was a zoo.

"There's really nothing private", they started to complain -

"We have a kiss and cuddle, and the camera's out again!"

  • Brilliant poem, Lindy!  And Clare - what did we do before digital cameras?  We took very few photographs and then waited ages for them to be developed!  Keep snapping - and sharing with us all.  I await the results of today's outing.

  • Thanks Pat.

You're right about the new cameras- once I start snapping, I have to be restrained! When we get home, I have to spend ages editing and deleting. I remember the Old Days when you took a reel of film and waited days for it to be developed and printed, and some of the results were distinctly disappointing...

    Looking forward to Clare's pics.

  • Thanks, Heather. It was another one where I began with absolutely no idea what it was going to end with. But somehow, they seem to write themselves.

    Any requests?!  Tomatoes?

     -------------------------------

I thought I'd fill the greenhouse

    With luscious fruits so red.

I fed the plants, and watered them:

I tucked them up in bed.

But oh dear, when I saw the crop,

My jaw dropped to the ground -

The insects found their way to them

    Devastation was all I found.

    Next year, I'll be ready,

    With nets and insect spray

With any luck, I'll keep my crop

    To eat them, every day.

So take this as a warning:

Whene're you want to grow -

    Others want a nibble, too

They like it too, you know!

  • Brussels sprouts, Lindy.

Our herring gulls are red listed birds.  Think about that the next time you hear some flaming idiot calling for a cull of them.

  • Ah, I've just come on and seen your suggestion......
