  • So I could pretend that I liked the malts and read the bumph?!

My poor son doesn't realise that I would be a liability. I think he is just trying to get me to broaden my horizons, it is his way of helping me. I can't really envisage a move to Shropshire, though.

  • Oh yes I know the Whisky Castle..

It's in Tomintoul just up the road from me...

I worked at The Glenlivet and finished with the longer tours in Aberlour.

Loved it met people from all over the world..

  • KEITH - we know Tomintoul - as well as you can from one visit - but didn't taste the whisky - as someone said, like trying to get medicine down!  Sorry your caring role is getting harder.  Hope your change of asthma meds is helping your own health.

I've been lurking through the weekend - moderately busy and exploring various things we have in mind for the year.  Best wishes to all.

Ospreys Rule OK, but Goldfinches come a close second!

  • I've been to/through Tomintoul several times, but never stopped at the distillery.  I'm fascinated by the process even though I don't like the taste!  But it's in such a wonderful setting.

  • Tomintoul distillery is nearer to Glenlivet than Tomintoul:-))

Mind you Benromach in Forres calls itself Speyside which is stretching the imagination.

My lovely doctor from Glenlivet loves to tell me the story behind the setting up of Tomintoul as a village and what Queen Victoria had to say about it when visiting all the villages in her realm. It wasn't glowing ..

  • Keith - Good to hear from you, but sorry on both counts - that your pc is still rather limping along, and that caring for your wife is proving so hard. I hope you're getting as much outside help as possible.

I like whisky, but only the rather plain rough blended kind such as Bells or Grouse (other brands are available, as they say!) and even then, not neat - I put dry ginger with it. My OH likes his neat or with water.

Heather - How caring of your son to suggest it to you.  I've always borne in mind that when you lose someone so close, it's not recommended to make any major changes in your life, such as moving house or changing your job, at least for twelve months.

I once knew a woman who was persuaded by her children to put her house up for sale almost immediately after losing her husband, and they sent half her possessions off to charity and the auction house! By the time she was installed in a tiny flat, bewildered by the speed of events, she fell ill herself. I was convinced that too many changes in the space of one year had had a bad effect.

  • Lindybird: Unfortunately help nowadays comes slowly. On our side we do have a good Occupational Therapist. We live in hope. Hope being our new vehicle arriving on schedule and being able to get up to Loch Garten again this year.

  • We enjoyed the film: "La La Land"  - My Friend warned me that it was not quite the same as musical films of yesteryear, and so I was intrigued.

It starts with a jolly, cheerful setpiece, which is just a little too long. Then we're introduced to the main characters, a girl who is an aspiring actress, and a man who at first finds her annoying: he is a jazz musician. We follow their adventures, with some charming singing and dancing along the way. I must have liked the music, as I was singing some of it as I left the building and we walked up the street! My OH said that he'd enjoyed it, which surprised me as some of the music was traditional jazz, and a lot of it modern pop. From me -- marks of 9 out of 10.

  • Keith fingers xd for LG this year...

Sadly can't do blended unless it's a single malt blend like Chivad Regal..

Might see if daughter wants to go to cinema when she is here next week as I like a 9/10.

  • Dau has phoned to suggest her father postpone his nanny duty from today (max 39 C) to tomorrow (max 28). Instead of driving across suburbs in a/c car to her house, he is thinking of catching bus out to lunch. Mad dogs and Who? go out in the midday sun. LOL. I’ve covered my tomatoes with expired sheets so fruit doesn’t bake before it ripens.
