WEEKLY CHAT (non-osprey) SUNDAY, SEPTEMBER 11 2016

Hallo all.  Off to eat pizza and drink wine. Back later.

  • Morning all:

Margo: Was wondering if you got out for your drive and lunch given the horrible storms in the south and southeast. I know you hate lightning; seems there was a lot of it!

OG: We had dentist in the '50s that my sister was sure was a former Nazi. Poor man, those were the days before they had to be polite and nice to us. But poor us too, no shots to deaden the pain of those awful slow drills..   Makes me shudder to even remember it!

Off to see daughter today then visit to Target. Yay!

  • OG    glad to hear that he is a good dentist.

hope J is well enough for the concert.

  • Sorry to hear that J isn't so good, OG: as Dibnlib says, hope he's well enough for the concert. We were discussing which concert to treat ourselves to, in December, as we had a Chris. brochure this week of what's on offer. We will try to make an effort this year, as last year we didn't go and then felt we had a gap in our schedule!

We went shopping and I bought several bras in M&S, as I know that it's rather like trying on shoes and you don't know which you are going to like! I shall take back the ones which I don't like, to our smaller more local branch. I also bought a great pair of trousers for only £1.49!!  They are not returnable, but I said that I would give them away if they didn't fit!  They do fit!  A nice, serviceable navy blue in a summer weight cotton. Then we had a quick lunch of soup and a roll.

EDIT:  Hope all goes well with the dentist. It's so important to find one you feel comfortable with. Mine is younger than me, but I'm still hoping he won't retire!

  • Didn't make it much past daughter's house and environs today, but that's okay. Breakfast at the usual place, then she bought a couple of cheapo pants to wear when she's working the horses. I bought a small pack of bite-size KitKat that we shared. Big spenders!  Gym tomorrow and some tidy up work in the garden.

OG: Hope you all get to go to the concert and that's J's bug is of the short-lived variety. Don't catch it!

Lindybird: I see you outdid us in the cheapo pants department. :-)  Daughter did try on some bras too, but you really have to be well rested for that - it's like a marathon, but more frustrating. I could hear her muttering unhappily in the dressing room; she finally gave up and will go back when she's up for it.  Lady in charge of the dressing rooms was from High Wycombe; gentleman trying on a shirt was on holiday from Germany, so a mini Euro meeting while dodging other shoppers.

Hi to everyone and special hugs and the very best thoughts for all who are worried and fretful - for whatever reason.

  • Good Morning, All.  The sun is bright here, but it's definitely cooler.

Annette - Sounds like a nice day with your daughter. My trousers looked to be wrongly labelled as regards the size - I held them up and decided to get a size larger than usual, as they were too slim. I suspect it put some ladies off buying them. It doesn't bother me what size it says they are as long as they fit me!

  • Do hope that it's a good weather day, and a very happy day for Brenda and her family with her daughter's wedding today.

Still thinking of Diane and her hospital vigil. She and her family must be losing track of the days, with all the worry.

  • I couldn't put it any better, LINDY.

  • Well, its absolutely glorious here!  I do so hope that some of this sunshine has gone down south of me, to help brighten the day for Brenda and her family on their special day.

I've just come in from sitting out in the garden - two days ago we said "It must be the last time this year that we do this" but now the chairs are on the lawn again where I've been lazing with the newspaper and eyeing the berries on the Ash tree and the honeysuckle. We still have a few tiny flowers on the roses, and the phlox are blooming.

How are things with you, Heather?  You must be seeing progress in the kitchen, now.

  • I had a special thrill when we went to Wales recently:  I don't know if you remember me posting a whole pile of red sunset photos, but I was so pleased with them that I framed a small one for on the shelf there.  Then I decided that I would just love to have one of them on the wall. I have had it copied onto a mock canvas, and we hung it there where it looks wonderful.  It was this one:

Now I'm thinking of having this one done, as it would look so good where I have a display of shells I've picked up on the shore:

I will have to persuade my OH to foot the bill for it, if I do!

  • Great photos, LINDY. Thank you.

Kitchen is getting on well. I will be able to make a roast dinner tomorrow! Tiles, flooring and painting/papering will happen next week. I chose to have granite workshops and they took a long time to cut and shape etc. The joiner has gone to Tiree for a windsurfing holiday, I think it is well deserved, lol.
