Weekly Chat Sunday July 11th

Happy New Week!  We’re back – Son is ok.  He was facing a court appearance re an allegation against him, but in the end did not have to appear and is in the clear.  Not a nice experience.

Been to LG and LotL – and got new long lens for camera!  More tomorrow.  Thanks for all the support – so pleased to be back here with you all!!

Ospreys Rule OK, but Goldfinches come a close second!

  • You too Diane! I woke up veeeery early 'cos the temps we are still having, I sleep with all windows and balcony door open and about 3.30am a bunch of magpies, fieldfares and gulls had a bit of a change of words in the yard... I will definitely have a nap later :)

  • Auntie - I shall pass on your Finnish books !!! But I'm sure those in our library are in English. So pleased to hear your mother is improving. And great that you saw so many ospreys.

Diane - When I gardened as a child on the farm, I would raid an old shed for the pigeon poo. Great stuff.

We are out for dinner tonight. Since Fsil1 paid for the sampler dinner a few weeks ago, we are taking them out to dinner. I could get used to this tit-for-tat procedure. LOL

  • Oh, no, Auntie, that was a bit rude; tell those birds to be quiet. :-)

I know what you mean, it was 93 F/34 C here today and will be again tomorrow. I leave the air conditioning on and the windows closed, because our mosquitoes carry some pretty bad diseases (like West Nile Virus). :-0 West Nile has been very hard on our Blue Jay population. We've lost a lot of the corvid-type birds to the virus. You definitely enjoy a nice nap later! You deserve it. :-)

AQ: Have a wonderful dinner! Have a good evening, Annette.

Looks like the three LG osprey juveniles are all accounted for, safe and sound on the nest. So I'm off to bed. Everyone have a nice weekend!!!

  • Gosh whatta day. Good but very busy. Carpets cleaned; now we're walking around in little booties until they dry, which will be tomorrow. Took the opportunity to wash baseboards, etc.  Will be nice to fall into clean bed with clean carpeting, clean windows tonight.  :-)

Lindybird: No idea where the weeks/months/years go anymore....

Cathie: A Wet Watford!  I occasionally read the Watford Observer online.  See that Lindybird has clued you in to the bold and itals keys - you can also use Control+ U for underline.  Heard about the Larsson conundrum on radio interviews a few weeks back when the movie was due out.  Hate it when good authors die - I very selfishly think, "What? No more books from him/her!"  That hardware store has always been an Aladdin's Cave (sp?) and it's very odd you mention that name, coz when I was growing up, we had paraffin lamps (sp again!?); in fact we had an Aladdin paraffin lamp!  My Mom used to send me to the store for Blu-Flame paraffin. Oh my, the memories. Very dangerous things, those lamps! A wonder we didn't burn the house down....  Have a nice weekend; hope Watford warms up for you.  :-)

TerryM: Wow. Hit by a swallow?  Glad the bird was okay (you too).  :-)  I've been buzzed by a hummingbird - tiny, but have long beaks!  And yes, what did we do before Google!

AQ;  New Zealand gets rave reviews over here!  Vienna - chocolate and Johann Strauss!  The parents were going on the same honeymoon trip as the newlyweds? Oh dear. Not my cuppa tea. You could promise to keep your distance (take your binocs!)  Have you seen Wattle yet?

Diane: Oh definitely. Will arrange for Lightning to go to  spa and let ducks have the garden!  But you have to send me some banana-walnut cake...

Auntie: Good  Mom is doing well. Oh goody - you had a nice day out too!  Wow - more than 100 chicks ringed. That's brilliant.  I still think The Summer Book is one of my favorites (forgot the author's name.)  Not good with fantasy - reality is bad enough! :-)

Re pigeon poo - when we were young, we used to scoop up horse poo whenever Thomas, the milkman's horse, would relieve himself in the street. Neighbors used to lurk in their passageways, buckets at the ready. We'd put it on the raspberries!  I'm sure it would be definitely not on these days for health reasons...

AQ Very - um - chatty on the Daily Update page tonight..... :-)

  • Annette - I had a phone call from Wattle's cousin last weekend. She had planned a very busy week for them so we deferred coffee until next week. But I thought I saw Wattle on blog "Who is on now" list earlier today. I bet she wanted to catch up on fledging, etc. I am ignoring intruder chat elsewhere.

  • AQ:   Me too.  Off to bed now.

  • Good morning auntie and I am so pleased that your Mum is now home and she is doing OK, it must have been a worrying time for you.

What a great day you had seeing ospreys and pleased that the breeding season has been so successful.

    Have a good weekend.

    Margobird

  • Goodness, lots of chat last night!  Will read it later, have to go out soon...

Dry here today & mixed weather promised.  We wanted the rain for the garden but like a lot of you, we got the wind with it, too. Lots of small branches down off the trees in the roads, as they are more vulnerable when in leaf in the summer.

Have my fingers crossed still that the new capping of the Oil Disaster in the Gulf is now sorted at last. Feel so sorry for the people who are losing their livelihoods over this, besides the poor wildlife which will be affected forever.

Have a good evening out again, margobird!  Travel safely!

  • Good Morning All. Dry here this morning, with some sunny intervals although it looks as if we may have had some early rain.

Auntie, So good to hear your Mum is now back home. Sounds like you enjoyed a brilliant day with the ospreys. A very successful year for the birds and their chicks.

    Margo, Do enjoy your evening.

Lots to check on books, which were discussed last night. I am afraid the ospreys have taken up most of my usual reading times.

I need to do some food shopping, so will go now and catch up later.

  • Well done everyone for not rising to irrelevant political nonsense on daily, don't know if I can keep it up though :((
