Weekly Chat Sunday July 11th

Happy New Week!  We’re back – Son is ok.  He was facing a court appearance re an allegation against him, but in the end did not have to appear and is in the clear.  Not a nice experience.

Been to LG and LotL – and got new long lens for camera!  More tomorrow.  Thanks for all the support – so pleased to be back here with you all!!

Ospreys Rule OK, but Goldfinches come a close second!

  • QUIETWOMAN  sorry to hear you no longer have your much loved companion. I have said before that through the sadness it is good to remember the wonderful times you had together.

OG  i belong to a fitness club called DW. It is in the Tesco retail park. OH usually takes me but there is a good bus service anyway. I do use the gym as well as the pool, but not this morning (I swam 1/2 mile ) then guess what OH picked me up and we went to Tiso for coffee, but no cake - what willpower!!!!! - this is probably cos I am going out with a friend pm and I can't guarantee no cake then.

For anyone who is interested we have 2 Tiso shops in town. Tiso in the town centre and Tiso Outdoor Experience on the outskirts of Inv. It is the latter where we enjoy a browse and coffee

DJOAN  count me in as a member of this prestigious club please.

  • Can we all be founder members of the Lost the Plot Club? I think I qualify.  We have had very heavy rain this morning, I hope Alan wasn't at the Bassenthwaite upper viewpoint, there's no shelter unless you go down a little to some trees, then not much and it's quite a way back down to the Tea (and cake) Rooms.

dibnlib (and others) - wow, 14 buffs, is that so she can match different outfits? I have just the one.

DjoanS (and others) - I love those house colours in Ireland and Tobermory, and probably other places I don't know about.  OH and I intend to return to Ireland sometime but haven't got around to it yet. Last time we went they had their own currency, not part of EU, so that was a while ago.

quietwoman - Glad you returned after your first look in :))  This thread got started because some of us were fed up with some of the comments on the main blog, also amusing comments were frowned upon by serious people and we couldn't diversify, which is what we do here.  I have looked at last night's postings and will not comment...

  • Afternoon all :)

Been meaning to say dibnlib, what a beauty Fingal was, you must miss him terribly

Diane, thank you very much for translating the buff etc :)

Thanks all for chat and lovely pics. It has been way too hot for me here over a week now, temps 30 something Cs. I know it isn't much compared to AQ, Wattle, Diane and Annette's but it IS hot for us LOL. I feel like that heat has melted the English-mode from my brain so I can join the Lost the Plot- group and also start a Lost the Words- group also

    Take care all!

  • Meant to say, here's another Astronomy Pic of the Day of the eclipse.

  • yes AUNTIE  we will always miss him, also Harvey who was put to sleep at the age of 14years and 4 months in 1994. We have always overlapped so now of course we still have Dillon who is 8 years and 2 months old. It means we have never been without a 4 legged friend.

Amusing story I hope. The Old Course is not open for play on a Sunday (unless of course there is a tournament on). When we were at Leuchars we used to walk Harvey there on Sundays (go find golfballs please Harvey) and we always used to put him back on the lead at the 17th before turning in front of The Old Course and Country Club. The weekend of the Battle Of Britain Display we were diverted when the Belgian display team to off to return home and guess what.........Harvey was next seen having a swim in the duck pond immediately in front of the restaurant - waiters laughing and spraying him with soda syphons. Did we have red faces.

  • Ooh, embarassing, dibnlib, didn't you just slink off and leave him to find his own way? ;))

  • Hello again.  Thank you for your welcomes.  I've been watching the chat for the past week and thoroughly enjoyed the relaxed interchange of the postings.  Not at all intimidating.

Annette in SoCal :  I know Denmark Street very well as I walk past it most days on route to my friend in Nascot Street.  The roundabout at the Library is now a car park - I think I would prefer the gardens, but that's progress for you.  Ah, the pub at the Library, during these past few weeks of hot weather, I've been sorely tempted to stop in for a nice cold shandy on the way back from the High Street.  I just didn't think  'an old dolly & her trolley' would look too good walking into a pub.

Aquilareen :  When I was living is South Africa, I went to a ladies night where we all had to take a recipe - I took one for an Elephant Stew (using the ENTIRE elephant).

To the lady who spoke about the tailless dove - We have a squirrell who regularly visits our garden who also seems to misplaced his tail.

Lastly, can anyone please help - I'm receiving all mail from this forum TWICE.

    Cheers, Cathie

  • Hi Cathie, I still sometimes get notifications twice, but I think I decided that every time I left a tick in a box that said "email me replies to this post" I would get a copy, so you have to make sure you don't leave a tick in after the first time (if you want notifications). The trouble is you can't check whether you've left a tick because when you edit a previous post the tick is there again! I went through all my posts and took out the ticks and then it was ok (mostly!).

I used to live in Bovingdon until I got married in 1976, my sister went to Cassio College and we went to Watford to shop and for concerts.

  • Good grief. Mornin' all. Just a quick hallo before I whizz out the door. So many interesting, amusing, and informative posts! Just managed to read them; now will have to find time to respond!  Thing is, when I sit down in the evenings to do that, it's just about the time the birds at LG and LOTL are waking up and I've always got one eye on each of those.  What was that monster that had 3 eyes?  Where is he when you need him!

Back later. Take care all  :-)

  • Lots of chat today – maybe because of poor weather over UK – now dry and windy here, but still warm.

DjoanS – so pleased owlet was recovered – hope it behaves itself now!  I didn’t keep up with that nest – just too many to follow them all.

Dibnlib – I thought that would be where you swim, but then didn’t notice any mention of the pool when we were driving by last week – we used the shopping centre to meet up, because we all know where it is!  I hope you are enjoying your afternoon cake – we haven’t eaten any coffee shop cake near home, having indulged when we were away – even OH did not eat cake with his milkshake on Monday!

Auntie – I am sure your English is at least as good as mine – I often think in shorthand (or “shortbrain”!) so I miss words out and don’t use proper sentences.  So pleased you are having warm weather for your summer break.

Dibnlib – love Harvey’s golf/swimming story – I expect that was the best day the catering staff had all season; I don’t think they laugh much at St Andrews.

Cathie – hello!  I think I may have missed your earlier look-in here.  We haven’t seen tailless Woodpigeon here today, but there were still four on the feeders this afternoon, as well as a Collared Dove!  If you are down south, I assume your tailless Squirrel is a Grey?  Can’t imagine it without, tail is such a distinctive part of Squirrels.

Annette  - good morning to you, may not “see” you in your evening as will switch off computers tonight ready to leave in the morning.  Friday and Saturday nights in Dunblane, for a celebration event Saturday afternoon, then onwards to Grantown for Sunday lunch with Son and 3 nights stay.  Not sure of other plans, probably include LG Monday and Vane Farm (and Loch Leven’s Larder for Butter Lemon Curd and other goodies) on the way home Wednesday.
