Weekly Chat Sunday July 11th

Happy New Week!  We’re back – Son is ok.  He was facing a court appearance re an allegation against him, but in the end did not have to appear and is in the clear.  Not a nice experience.

Been to LG and LotL – and got new long lens for camera!  More tomorrow.  Thanks for all the support – so pleased to be back here with you all!!

Ospreys Rule OK, but Goldfinches come a close second!

  • MARGOBIRD we lost the plot a long time ago, makes life far more interesting!!!!

  • Yes, I was right - rain started just as hairdresser finished!  But seems to have stopped now and clouds are clearing.

Dibnlib – one place we ate last week was the Priory Hotel in Beauly.  We treated daughter and one grandson who are both veggie, and we were all happy with our choices.

DjoanS and other shoppers – Tiso are about to open a new store in Perth – at Inveralmond, I think – definitely at one of those roundabouts on the A9.

Ironing all completed – packing tomorrow.  Now must make dinner.

Ospreys Rule OK, but Goldfinches come a close second!

  • Don't believe it!!!!  "Penguin Island" is not on BBC Scotland. Why oh why did they advertise it then. If I hadn't known about it I would not now be throwing a hissy fit!!!! Wonder if I will get it on I player tomorrow. Otherwise the only hope is that they will show it at a later date.

  • I've come on whilst the stove is heating up to bore you with my pics of our day out on Monday - we went to Llandudno which is a lovely town on the North Wales coast.  Its only a bit more than 1 & a half hours for us in the car, so bearable distance for a day out trip.  We always head for the Great Orme first (which is a rocky promontary to the left of the town). You can be charged to enter via the road through the town, but we are savvy and head for the road which comes down from the back end, and its free!   We got out of the car and had a good long walk first, and this is the view from the top, of the Conwy estuary, looking back towards land:

-afraid it was a bit cloudy all day, so not very clear, but you can see tiny boats moored in the estuary, & the houses clustered onto the base of the Gt. Orme in the foreground are very wealthy folks holiday homes, complete with tennis courts and some with swimming pools.

Then after a picnic lunch & another walk, we went down into the Town and walked on the Promenade:

The Gt. Orme is the big cliff at the back of the town here, and the large building to the left of pic is a modern Theatre where they have all kinds of performances, both shows & musical events.  All the Victorian hotels on the front are painted in lovely 'ice cream' colours with nothing too bright & tacky, and the promenade is very popular as it is so long and easy to walk along.  There are also lots of colourful flower beds which you can't see here. The beach is mainly pebbles as you can see, and dogs are restricted to one end   : - (     but of course they want to keep it as clean as possible for children to play on, so that's understandable.  If you look at the top of the Orme, you can just see the pylons for the Cable Car which runs up and over the top - we never go on this as we are both scared stiff!

  • LINDY   thanks for the lovely pics. We used to go to Llandudo about 40 years ago and more. My Gandparents lived in the Wirral so North Wales was often one of our day trips out.

Our weather here today has been pretty grim, but have you seen it at St Andrews? Heavy rain, strong winds and the haar. Todays golf was cancelled - I just hope it improves for the start of The Open tomorrow.

OH has just booked tickets for Scottish Fiddle Orchestra 30th Anniversary concert on 24th so looking forward to that.

  • Linda - lovely pics of Llandudno - not a place I know! I had a chuckle at your comment about the 'ice cream colours' and 'nothing too bright and tacky'. When we are in the southwest of Ireland we always go through a tiny village called Allihies ... where the colours of the houses/pub/church could never be called ice cream colours! I found a few pics:

  • Evening All, ( That sounds like Dixon of Dock Green)

Margo, I thought to have 'Lost the Plot' was a compulsory criteria of becoming a member of this group.

OG, I always say that when I go to the haidressers it is bound to rain or be very windy when I am ready to go home.

Diane, People always seem to distrust or treat as strange, anyone who does anything different from what is considered the norm. Thanks for your insight to the Amish way of life. I have watched a TV programme about them and admired them.

Linda, As I was reading your 'report', I was wondering if you went on the cable car. I have to admit, I have been on it many times. As I grew up on the Wirral, N. Wales is so near. There really are some beautiful places in Wales to visit and you don't have to see another person in some areas. Thanks for the photographs. You obviously had a very enjoyable day.

Hope you have all had a good day.

  • Buzz the Dog enjoyed the day enormously, thanks, Brenda!  - then he slept all the way home in the back of the car.

DjoanS -  I know what you mean, we had a long weekend in Galway once and the houses there are fascinating as all the colours of the rainbow - somehow it seemed appropriate and cheerful. Took pics of them but don't know where those are now   :-(

  • DJOAN   particularly like the lilac and shades of blue houses - might look odd in Inverness though!  Nice streetlights

  • Haven't got any pics but think most people must have seen pics or seen for themselves the wonderful colours of the houses on the seafront of Tobermory on Mull
