Weekly Chat Sunday July 11th

Happy New Week!  We’re back – Son is ok.  He was facing a court appearance re an allegation against him, but in the end did not have to appear and is in the clear.  Not a nice experience.

Been to LG and LotL – and got new long lens for camera!  More tomorrow.  Thanks for all the support – so pleased to be back here with you all!!

Ospreys Rule OK, but Goldfinches come a close second!

  • Afternoon all ... just come back from a lovely lunch out .... OH's suggestion! We never go out for lunch on a Sunday ... we find our favourite places too crowded. We went to a little pub, only about 3 miles away, on a country lane .... and it was excellent!

Glad to hear you had a good evening margobird in spite of the concert being cancelled

Off to watch the nest now ... things are happening!

    Take care

Joan - avid bird and nature watcher in Northumberland!

  • think it was AQ who said she had seen I was reading Peter James so had got one of his books, didn't say which one. The series I enjoy are the Roy Grace detective books and they don't have to be read in order but because of a small thread running through it might help.

ANNETTE I am most disorganized but think you are the La Plante fan. Me too. it amazes me how anyone can come up with such gruesome storylines.

Has anyone seen the flac the poor chief super in charge of the Northumberland case has had to take because of her hairstyle. I just hope she has a thick skin and I guess in her position she has

Something else worth watching this coming week will be Penguin Island on Wed at 7.30. along with osps and Puffins I cannot resist them.

Wonder if I will be one of the few not watching the footie tonight. Much more interested in the golf this aft and even more the Open next week. We have been to a few at Muirfield, Birkdale and Troon but don't intend to go to St Andrews next week.

Off to have a look at the nest, when I looked a short while back I could only make out 2 chicks but they are so wel camoflaged I am sure there are actually 3.

  • Good afternoon dibnlib I will certainly be watching the penguins.  They are so cute.  About 3 years ago I got to stroak one at a Zoo, can't remember which one but this particular penguin enjoyed contact with humans.  OH will probably watch football but I am not interested really so will probably spend time watching ospreys with the sound down so as not to disturb his football.

  • Margobird and Joan - Glad to hear about your tasty lunchesout. We have got out of the habit - must do something about that!

Annette - Hope you are enjoying the new TV. For some reason I thought you got it last week? Senior moment, I think I must have had. We have wireless headphones for the odd time when one of us just doesn't want to hear TV. Very useful things.

    Must go back to nest

  • PS My own Odin has gone trout fishing this afternoon. Somehow, based on recent catches, I don't think we'll be having trout for dinner. (Just as well that I have the pork roast ready to cook) He did spend quite a long time sorting out fishing flies before he left, we'll see what turns up!! Before you all think that I am married to  a talentless (talonless) fisherman I must say that most years he gets enough salmon for us to send for smoking :-)))))

  • MARGOBIRD  think  I have said before that OH was lucky enough to spend 4 months in the Falklands in 1987 their summer so he got really close to Rockhoppers Gentoo and Magellanic Penguins. We have marvellous pics which sadly I can't post as it was an old style camera.

I was bought up near Edinburgh where everyday they would open the enclosure and those Penguins who wanted to could take part in the Penguin Parade in the grounds( very cute)

  • HEATHER lucky you sending your own salmon to be smoked (delicious)

  • Glad you have enjoyed your lunches out -  they have been off menu here for a couple of weeks as we are trying to lose weight and only eating salads and skinny meals!  (Its working as I have lost a little, but not as much as I should have, as we have also been guzzling our own strawberries and raspberries, yum!)

Off out for the day tommorow as its going to be reasonable weather.

Meant to say in earlier post, Diane:  thanks for pics of Easter Island, that place has always been fascinating hasn't it?  & also, so glad you got a Man to fix your car for you - batteries are funny things.  We have had probs with them over the years as we rarely have 'new' cars and prefer the older ones but they need a little tlc sometimes!   Hope the house cleaning project is coming along.  My idea of starting at the top and working down hasn't worked this summer as I keep getting interrupted by ospreys and family things, so keep having to start all over - that's the measure of the housework conundrum!   I just stuff things under cushions when someone comes into the house & hope they can't see the dust for the sunshine!  Will be leaving the ironing pile where I can't see it, to go out tomorrow....

That must have been wonderful for you OH dibnlib.  You jogged my memory as well.  I visitied Edinburgh Zoo about 30 years ago and saw the penguin parade.

  • Bother, bother, bother – drafted a reply, with photos, then lost the lot!  I had been reading through all I missed last week and decided I couldn’t reply to everyone, but thanks for all you shared, and specifically:

Sorry I didn’t know about your birthday, GeorgeG.  Pleased you spent it with your family, enjoyed two visits to Loch Garten and got the Osprey picture.  And HeatherB – welcome back from one holiday and bon voyage for the family trip!  I hope the gingerbread turned out alright – I feel kind of responsible!

On to today’s posts:  All – thanks for all the kind messages.  AQ – really enjoy all your Universal Laws – all so true!  Annette – I see you have been dashing about again!  Pleased you have the new TV and have got it working.  Diane – sorry you have had car trouble.  Margobird – Sorry about your cancelled concert.  I do have some photos, but most taken before the new lens as I didn’t get it till Friday, so only used it at LotL on the way home.

Here is EJ surveying her estate last Wednesday while the GEMs sheltered from the very high winds.  On the webcam, we don’t see the higher ground because of the camera angle, so it’s good to get a different view - even if it is with a back view of EJ!

And a view of Cairn Gorm (the Blue Mountain) from Glenmore Forest – still with its usual little bit of snow in the north corrie.
