Hello everyone,we have had a mixed day here at LG. Weather has been mixed but unfortunately no ringing, tagging and naming took place. We are still awaiting official word of when and if they are going to go ahead this year. As far as we know they will be R&T and naming them but when that will be is anyones guess. We will have to wait for the official confirmation and just be patient that bit longer.
The three are a bit restless, stretches, fidgiting, but at present are sitting low in the nest. Do take a look at ChrissyB's photo's in yesterdays blogs. Apologies if I've got the name wrong, I'm doing my best to remember who posted them.
After saying they were sleeping two are now up and wing exercising whilst one stays firmly sitting

RSPB Giving Nature a Home
The one on the far right seems to have the fish, one is sitting it out and the third youngster is trying to eat something, whether it managed to get a piece of the fish I don't know but it looks like it did. Oh its finished now and is pottering about, no it started wingersising and took off straight up and down. Now its come over to the left hand side of the nest and is carrying on practising its take off.
Miissed the action then, did EJ come in with a fish or is it leftovers. Whatever, they are all tucking in.
#1 is flying up high enough to be out of camera range . It backs up and starts from closer to the center of the nest so it has nest under it to land . I expect it will officially fledge today
It is loudly chirping "Look at me I can Fly !!"
#1 is still eating
EJ just rushed to the nest Alarm calling. An intruder landed on the nest . She chased it off. Was it one or the visiting juveniles from another nest looking for a meal ?
Now she had taken control of the fish and is serving what is left of it. All there are getting some of it

I have been away from the screen for a while ... and now EJ seems to have possession of the fish and is doling it out to all of them!
Gosh, that one at the back does look like Odin!

If you look at the tail length it is #3 (Titch. ) He has always looked like his dad. We will never know the sex so I wil call it HE . :)
Our juveniles are certainly getting lots of wing practice this afternoon.

I will look more closely now you say he is like Odin....I like that idea that he is like his Dad :) :)
I just read Richard's blog. We always knew that everyone at the center and Roy Dennis have one goal and that is health and safety of the birds. Richard's blog is filled with love and concern for them . Even their desire to ring and tag them to learn more about their migrations takes a back seat to their safety and well being.
One or more will fledge this weekend . We would be heart broken if a chick was frightened and bolted prematurely and was injured during the R&T .
Once again it was the right decision. Just as the decision was right not to frighten the Lady at LOTL to ring her chicks.
Lynette - thats a really good pic you took of the young one practising its take off. Feet right up in the air. Its what I saw too before I popped out. Since then a fish has been delivered and the wind has picked up again. Its great fun watching them practise flying and watching the same at LOTL. Shame about the weather though.
One of the youngsters is on the high part of the nest next to the camera giving us good close-ups of him preening.
