Weekly Chat (Non-Osprey Topics), 19 June 2016

HAPPY NEW WEEK!

Last week's Chat thread is here.

On Monday: HAPPY SOLSTICE and HAPPY FULL MOON!

This will be the first Full Moon to fall on the June Solstice since 1967 -- the Summer of Love! -- according to EarthSky. Other sources say it hasn't happened since 1948.

The Slooh Observatory will host an online live streaming special dedicated to the Solstice and Full Moon combination event.

Everyone have a wonderful week!

  • LINDY   sorry that your efforts have come to nothing.

WENDY   Sorry to hear Daisy has been in the wars, good all is better now.

  • Morning all:

Diane: Good those storms missed you, but of course, you're in that part of the country.

Lindybird:  We can grow camellias in this part of California, but they've falling out of fashion in favor or native/Mediterranean plants. I'm sure they do wonderfully without too much care on the coast north of San Francisco where the climate is much more like the UK (think rain).

Clare/Alan: What could be worse the Boris and Gove? Geeez. One guess; the hint is DT (and no, that's not Delirium tremens, though on second thoughts...)

Clare: Footballer story a hoot (or something like that). Watch out or you'll get a Yellow Card for weeing on the thread.  And yes, we need to see more of you - how's the job going?

Heather: Le Creuset is here too, but I don't own any of it - it's very heavy in addition to costing so much and my cooking doesn't rate expensive cookware.

Late going for a walk this morning and the sun is already burning through the clouds....

  • HEATHER    sorry to hear of your calamity.  Have never had Le Creuset as they are so very heavy even before you put anything in them.

    Like the names "Rowan"and "Willow"

After a shop in M & S we came home via the polling station and I made up a picnic lunch which we took to Dochgarroch. The weather was dry and warmish and it is nice to eat outside, when there aren't too many flying beasties around. Wasp season is a no no for eating outside as I have a real phobia. We walked Benson by the canal, waved to the passengers on the "Jacobite Queen" and "The Seagull" and other boats passing by. Tiso was next and then home.

ANNETTE For guddle  , see muddle.  Prefer guddle as it is a Scots word.

  • I can hardly believe the awful flooding in UK South East!

dibnlib: Thanks for the explanation of guddle.

  • We didn't get much sleep last night. Very noisy thunderstorms with very heavy rain. We are just having another one at the moment. We needed a fan on in the bedroom as it was so humid.

We voted at lunchtime, when the weather was dry. Not many posters around here, but the few I have seen, are Remain.

Heather, I have three Le Creuset pans, bought by my mother-in-law, but I stopped using them quite a few years ago. Future son-in-law is an excellent cook, and for the last couple of years has asked for Le Creuset as presents. I refused at first, as I wouldn't want any kitchenware as a present, but I have had to relent and he is thrilled.

Dibnlib. I like the thought of your picnic.

Linda, Sorry that your legal problem has had to come to an end. Not a satisfactory outcome for you.

Think I will close down for a while. Hopefully this storm will pass shortly.

  • BRENDA - just watched the news about the weather and immediately thought about you. Also wondering if CLARE has been affected?

Yes, the le Creuset pans and indeed any cast iron pans are heavy. My son uses them. The saucepans that I use every day (if I'm not having a senior moment as in my previous post) are stainless steel Polaris pans bought in Denmark by my OH's late first wife at least thirty five years ago, I don't think that you can get them now.

It has been warm here today, I have gardened in half hour spurts. Think we will have a fan on in the bedroom, tonight, BRENDA.

  • In my prestigious, distinguished, and authoritative position as the Official Starter of the Weekly Chat, I am showing Clare an official "Yellow Card" for bodily functions on the thread. You've been warned!!!

    LOL LOL LOL

  • Oh, dear.  See that there have been bad thunderstorms for some: hope you are all OK.  My Eldest, with new wife and little Amber in tow, is on holiday in Torquay - he texted me on Tuesday to say that he's had food poisoning. Don't know what their weather's been today.

My Friend spent the last fifteen years of her marriage collecting Le Crueset pans, bit by bit, until she had a massive amount - she loves to cook. Then she found that her wrists were not strong enough to lift them off the stove!  They have now made their way to her daughter's, who also loves to cook.

Had a pleasant lunch sitting semi outdoors - Friend had soup & sandwich, and I had a jacket potato with cheese & salad. However, shortly afterwards I felt unwell and was glad to get home. Think I have a stomach upset, so have had little since except for water.

  • LOL!! Diane and Heather!  (Shocked, I am!)
