HAPPY NEW WEEK!!!
Last week's Chat thread is here.
Seems like a lot of folks on this thread have been facing adversity of one kind or another. Sending you all best wishes and good energy.
Have a wonderful week everyone!
Yes Mike, she is often in my thoughts.
Quiet on here this afternoon.
We have been busy, of course. My OH painted the whole ceiling this morning, filled in any tiny holes left by picture nails etc. and then this afternoon we both set to and painted all of the walls. Bonnie sat in her crate, watching proceedings and wondering what on earth we were doing...... She was let out, later, and doesn't seem to have become a yellow dog yet, although her paws are green today as my OH has also cut the lawn which was very wet and made everything green. He also cut the bottom hedge which annoys him if it has spikes on it (hawthorn and quite vigorous) Now he's out with the dog.....
Oh, and this morning we decided that one of the cupboards on the wall would have to come off, after all, so I took all the precious tiny ornaments upstairs and we lurched it off and managed to put it down without breaking the glass doors! Behind it was the original colour of the wallpaper - pale honey.
The ceiling looks good so is done now. Tomorrow we will paint all of the yellow paper again, and my OH is going to rub down the wall which is plastered only, and we will paint that with two coats, hopefully. Then we just have to put everything back!
And then..... we will do the same to the kitchen, although as I said before, there is not a lot of bare plaster in there as a lot of it is tiled.
ANNETTE - hope that you are OK, the picture of the smoke cloud was a bit scary for me...
I haven't been checking up on anything much today, Callum and his Mum arrived here this morning, I had asked that he would, I wanted to fill up his petrol tank! He and Amy have now arrived safely in Edinburgh (or somewhere near). His mum and I were very anxious.
LINDY - had to laugh when you said that you were going to paint each side of the furniture! When I was first married in 1966, we rented an unfurnished flat. Same thing done by previous tenants - rather strange to see colour effects! My Mum soon got stuck in and redecorated. She taught me how to hang wallpaper and paint. She was also a good cook and gardener and seamstress. Talking about sewing - as we have been - I hated it with a passion. I am predominately left handed and that didn't help. Mum made all my clothes, also curtains etc on her Singer sewing machine and tried to teach me. When it came to GCE prelims, I came top of the class for theory but my practical results were abysmal. We also started with the dreaded Cookery Apron, had to embroider the school badge on this. I think that I passed the O level, honestly can't remember. Probably any certificates are up in the loft. Who cares, anyway!!!!
GEORGE Happy Birthday.
LINDY I agree with you. Mental Health has always been the poor relation. It is just as important as any other illness and needs the same degree of funding.
HEATHER Glad that Callum is safe and sound in Edinburgh. We always used to phone on arrival at distant location. That is until Mum had not 1 but 2 punctures on her journey from my Grandparents to her home....approx 240 miles. This was in the days prior to mobile phones and all she was able to do was to give my Grandparents a garbled message,(on AA rescue phone) which really only served to confuse them, and me as I was staying with them at the time. We said after that, no arrival phone calls as people might get worried if there was a problem and a late arrival at destination. Of course we still continued to phone, but there were no more promises.
DIBNLIB- my son can't understand why I need to know when he gets home to Shropshire after driving from here! He quite rightly says that I don't have a clue where he is for most of the time...
Annette: I've just seen the updates on the wildfire. I hope you and your OH, and your home, are okay! Sending you protective energy. Don't take any risks!
I've changed the link on the wildfire a couple of times. I think the NBC News link is the most up to date: HERE
Just looked at your link, DIANE.
I know that the fire is in those rugged canyons, but it doubled in area overnight to 4,000 acres and 1,200 firefighters haven't been able to contain it. It's advancing toward the Santa Barbara coast. And they could have 40 mph winds tonight. So I'm a little worried about Annette. The air has to be ghastly.
