Good morning all. June I too feel irritated that the woman did not have better control over her child, should have been under close watch even on a lead if necessary! As a result the zoo and the species have sadly lost a beautiful and precious gorilla. Absolutely heart breaking :( Dont suppose the zoo feels any better
Isnt Keith lucky ! Enjoying that spectacular scenery! Wish I had his job :)
Those chicks of EJs are huge now! As someone once called them GEMS giant eating machines! I forget who invented that name :)
GEM A great name. We should use it more often.
Does anyone remember my APOLLO?. Last seen on the shores of western Scotland, he somehow made his way to my backyard in Sept, 2013. He stayed very closeby (his favorite perch was actually on a gazing globe on my patio) until well after frost when he disappeared during a heavy snowstorm. He was next seen on TV at Christmas time 2013 at the foot of the Baby Jesus in Bethlehem. He returned to me in spring 2014. He then repeated this behavior Bethlehem 2014, my patio spring 2015. Apollo now has a permanent home on my desk above my computer.
I have learned in Wikipedia that the ancient site of Delphi (500-300 BC) was considered the center of the earth when the flight of two eagles crossed at this point.
This site is also connected with APOLLO a god of Greek mythology. From Wikipedia; "Apollo was forced to fly and spend eight years in menial service before he could return forgiven."
But I think my Apollo was named for the American spacecraft Apollo, not for a Greek god. Keith can verify this. But the spacecraft may have been named for the Apollo of Greek mythology.
Yes, Keith does have an interesting job indeed. Many on here have expressed envy.
Mum is feeding, chicks don't seem interested.
Big brother/sister is quite happy outside the protective cover of Mum's body. He is already stretching his tiny wings. But they have a LOT of growing before fledging.
Not Ospreys, but very worth a view--see Hazel's video of the day old Crane chick on a thread entitled '1 day old Crane chick' (at the moment still on the home page of the Forum and/or watch the live streaming webcam at Slimbridge: www.wwt.org.uk/.../webcam
Kind regards, Ann
Thanks for the video, Ann. Any wildlife news is always interesting and welcome.
