Weekly Chat, Sunday May 30 2010

Hi all: Pesky cam is down again.   Don't forget to check the last page of previous week's posts for a hallo from Caerann and somewhat worrisome news from Phoebe's nest.

Hot, hot here today. Now the wind is back up - chimes are chiming madly and motion sensor lights are coming on and off as the hanging plants sway in the wind.  Nice tree man is coming next week; hope our Chinese Elm doesn't sustain any more damage in the meantime.

OG: Hoping to organize a similar video for my daughter's 50th (or rather, have my clever friend help me do one).

Alicat: Oh man; not good news about the hummers. Tried to watch the video, but more than 12,000 viewers  were also on the site and the video kept freezing.

Diane: Fascinating about Zaca Station Road! Thanks - must've been a tiny railroad since the distance to Los Alamos is just about 9 miles.....  I knew there were wineries up there though haven't visited them yet.

Really tired,  so not staying around late tonight. Planning a lazy day at home tomorrow and Monday. Take care all.

  • Welcome Back, OG.   Hope to hear later, that you enjoyed your trip and came back with some photos.

Bright here, no wind, forecast much of same.  We are off to the shops  ( don't often say that as Husband hates shops)   Hey Ho!   'See You'   later.

  • Morning all - beautiful morning here ... calm, sunny and warm.... that is until the sea breeze starts up!

Welcome back, OG - look forward to hearing about your Garden Scotland trip and hopefully some photos!

Have to take my godson to the Metro station later this morning ... he's off to see a pal at Lancaster University ... he was going to drive, but has chickened out at the last minute! In a way I'm pleased, because it shows he's not over-confident in his driving skills ... hasn't been driving that long.

Looks like another day of pottering in the garden, although we are promised heavy showers later.

    Take care

Joan - avid bird and nature watcher in Northumberland!

"You may wish to learn from my unfortunate experience which occurred yesterday. The moral of this story is to check, I mean really check the delivery for signs of tampering, before accepting the goods.

I had ordered some camera equipment from a company in St Helens, on a delivery next day basis, by courier. When the parcel was opened, some of the items including a small camera were missing. Since I had actually placed two orders, together, I assumed the other items would follow. However, something alerted me to a mismatch of the items, some were associated with the missing camera. So I then assumed that the order was incomplete in error.

However, when I contacted the supplier, he asked me to check the cardboard box, which I said was OK, at first, but, on turning the box upside down, it was clear that the box had been opened in transit and resealed, using the same colour of adhesive tape.

The Courier is being asked by the supplier to investigate and honour a claim for theft and in the meantime, the supplier has sent me the missing items. Also I learned that this particular courier company, will have weighed the box at both, the Liverpool and Guildford depots, in their logistics system, so the point where the discrepancy occurred will become evident.

Next week I shall make enquiries, regarding advice to customers, on what is the correct action to take concerning suspicious damage or signs of tampering. To refuse delivery is one option, but maybe there is the option to check, by unpacking before signing for the acceptance of the goods or refusing them."

  • jsb:    Very crafty of them to use the same colour of tape to reseal the box.  Its such a grey area, signing for goods on the doorstep - usually the courier is impatient to be away to the next job, and if a parcel looks undamaged at first glance, you do tend to think its going to be OK.

  • Afternoon all,

Firstly welcome back OG. Glad you had a nice time at the Edinburgh Garden show.

Everyone else , thanks for your clips links etc.

JSB : Thanks for that cautionary tale about the parcel which was tampered with. I have also had a problem with a camera which I tried to buy online from a company who said there were based in UK but turned out to be in Hong Kong. I had no end of trouble getting my money back when they could not supply the camera although they originally claimed it was in stock. They delayed and delayed refunding the money which they took when I placed the order. Eventually I contacted my credit card company and they refunded it in full right away.

This morning we have been to Stamford to have a look around the shops, then went for lunch at the walled garden centre in Elton.

Weather is hot and humid and not very pleasant.

Temp 27.1c and feels like 31c

  • OG  hope you enjoyed Ingleston and were not too tired after a long day. Must try to get there next year. Wonder if you were staying at The Norton?

Enjoyed a walk round Loch an eilein yesterday and a picnic lunch. we then stopped at Inverdruie and visited a newly opened Aviemore Gallery. Next we went to the fisheries but were told that if we wanted to see osps fishing it would be best early am or in the evening after the fishermen have gone. Saw only 1 fish caught and I am glad to say it was put back. Then a flying visit to LG. Had a chat with Richard about naming the chicks (no decisions as yet but any ideas are welcome, please make them appropriate).Today another glorious day so took Dillon to Chanonry, lovely walk but no dolphins

  • Sounds like a wonderful day, dibnlib.   I'm sure Richard will get lots of suggestions re the naming of the chicks.

Hot & humid here this afternoon - sat in the garden for a while then did some pruning, picking, watering etc.

  • Very hot here today but the thunderstorms forecast for overnight and tomorrow should change that.

Just said goodbye to our son and his wife, who have been staying with us for three very enjoyable days. They showed us plenty of photographs of their 5 week holiday in Peru and Cuba.

Diane, I really do hope that the juvenile peregrine falcon is located. Very hard to understand the woman's mentality to just drive off with the bird still on board.

OG, Your day at Gardening Scotland must have been very good for you to stay 9 hour. I look forward to hearing all about it. We have been so busy, we haven't even looked at our photographs of Chelsea yet.

Margo, I still worry about Hope, even though the news is now much better than it was.

Linda, I hope you find your earring.

jsb, Thank you for your advice re signing for parcels. That is something which has never crossed my mind.

Thank you for all your news. OH is just watching Dr Who so I am trying to catch up on here.

  • BRENDA lucky son and wife. 5 weeks in Peru and Cuba sounds wonderful. Our neighbours are just back from Cuba but haven't seen them yet to ask how it went.
