Weekly Chat, Sunday May 30 2010

Hi all: Pesky cam is down again.   Don't forget to check the last page of previous week's posts for a hallo from Caerann and somewhat worrisome news from Phoebe's nest.

Hot, hot here today. Now the wind is back up - chimes are chiming madly and motion sensor lights are coming on and off as the hanging plants sway in the wind.  Nice tree man is coming next week; hope our Chinese Elm doesn't sustain any more damage in the meantime.

OG: Hoping to organize a similar video for my daughter's 50th (or rather, have my clever friend help me do one).

Alicat: Oh man; not good news about the hummers. Tried to watch the video, but more than 12,000 viewers  were also on the site and the video kept freezing.

Diane: Fascinating about Zaca Station Road! Thanks - must've been a tiny railroad since the distance to Los Alamos is just about 9 miles.....  I knew there were wineries up there though haven't visited them yet.

Really tired,  so not staying around late tonight. Planning a lazy day at home tomorrow and Monday. Take care all.

  • Hi, all. Thanks everyone for pics, chat, info.

Lindybird: I forgot to tell you that I really liked the poem you posted!!! Kept meaning to do it, but forgetting. My brain has not been fully engaged this week at all. Must be a weird planetary alignment or a strange moon. LOL

Caerann: Agree with you about the growing hardship among our people. All politicians should be forced to live on minimum wage for a year before they can take office. So glad that you are doing well and that your job is working out fine.

OG: I hope everything works out well with the hotel booking. Let me know if I need to write a protest letter to that place. Seriously.

AQ: You're right. This blog makes me think about things I never would have considered before.

Annette: Very hot here, too. 88F/31C tomorrow. High humidity. A chance of thunderstorms every day this coming week. The big Indianapolis 500 Mile Race is tomorrow. Folks will be very upset if it's rained out, but I couldn't care less. :-)

Glad you enjoyed the Zaca Station Road info. Ha! When they mentioned Los Alamos, I thought they meant the Los Alamos, in New Mexico, where the atomic bomb was developed. Then when you said it was only 9 miles away, I thought, "Huh?" I realized then that there's a Los Alamos, California. Don't think Oppenheimer and those other science dudes spent much time at wineries or the beach. LOL Hope Sunday and Monday are relaxing and fun for you!

    Have a nice Sunday everyone.

  • OK< I give up. Where is Lindybird's latest peom please?

Am out shortly so will check in later for replies (hopefully)

  • Good morning all have an hour or so to catch while OH is at work.  He is very busy at the moment with various deadlines to meet.  Thanks to all for pics and news.  All so interesting.  Hope you all have a good day.

  • Alicat – I don’t thank I have said it yet: I was pleased to read your good news from the hospital.  I have been following Phoebe’s nest, just once each evening (UK time) and was very much saddened by the happenings with the Crow.  Poor Phoebe, she is having a really bad season with her offspring this time.

Now potential bad news from the Black Bear Centre too – the five days separation seems to have dried Lily’s milk, so Hope is undernourished and lethargic.  They are discussing and taking advice on intervention.

Annette and AQ – I think that this interaction is very good for our aging brains – and it’s good for us to be learning new things in a supportive and undemanding group scenario.

Weather looks reasonable here, and everything growing well after recent wet days – trouble is that applies to weeds and grass too!  We both had another bad night, so were pleased to be at home and not away.  Will hopefully get some fresh air today to help the breathing.

Ospreys Rule OK, but Goldfinches come a close second!

Poor Phoebe does seem to be having a tough time as I read yesterday.  I am devastated about the news of Lily and Hope.  So upsetting for them after managing to get them back together.  Just have to hope they can do something for Hope.

  • Morning Sunday, All:  It's trying to be sunny here but its not very warm (about 14 deg. at present). Sad to hear there is bad news about Phoebe again - I'm going to look in on there in a minute. Also that there are problems for Lily and Hope. Life is fragile even if you are a fairly resourceful and large black bear.

Agree so much with OG about this blog being good for our 'ageing brains' !  (Mind you, seem to have read somewhere that all your little brain cells start degenerating at around 30 years old, so not much hope for us older ones, and depressing even for the younger ones!)

Watched the beginning and the end of the Eurovision Song Contest last night- we came last for the 3rd time in only 8 years!  Think its a combination of factors including the manic dancing on stage (unnecessary) & the fact that most of Europe probably don't like us very much!  The main reason of course is that all the countries of the Eastern bloc vote for each other, and there are now an awful lot of them, so we are out in the cold whatever we do. Ah well, it's only a song contest.

Annette:   Glad to hear that you're going to take it easy for a couple of days at least. Otherwise I shall come and wag my finger at you to have some more 'me time' !

    Have a good Sunday, All.

  • So sorry to hear that you've both had a bad night, OG.  Nothing worse than not getting your sleep when you are under par.  Do try to have a rest this afternoon:  it's Sunday, so no guilt there!

  • Morning all,

Thanks for all the overnight chat, pics etc

Annette : Thanks for the info re the hummers. They have put Hoku back in the nest and are hoping that Hope has fledged so maybe things are not as bad as first thought.

Also worrying about Hope and Lily but at least they have the option of intervening should it become necessary.

Germany were worthy winners of the Eurovision Song Contest. They obviously did not expect to win and were delighted. I thought it was a great show but then I have always liked it.

Weather is much better today with sunny spells and a blustery wind. Temp 14.5c

  • Morning all. Edit: Afternoon all! Lindybird  I watched the highlights of the Chelsea Flower Show last night and noticed your Patty's Plum poppy was given a special mention.  How nice.  It seems to have been a very good week with several commentators saying it was the best show in a few years so I hope to catch up on the iplayer during the course of the coming week as I was incredibly busy last week and completely missed out - boo hoo.  First time in years I have missed it but glad to catch it last night.  I was sorry to read about the predicament for Lily and Hope and poor Phoebe but most distressing is this situation with the oil leak in the gulf which I know many of you have debated over the past few weeks.  Thanks to all for your cheery pics of birdies, dogs, countryside, gardens and flowers and of course great that the LG nest is going well and we have better viewing now that the buzzing has stopped and the picture is better - certainly much better at night.
