Loch of the Lowes - 2010

Thought I'd start a separate thread for the posting of news, updates, pictures etc. from the nest at the Loch of the Lowes. Now that the first chick has hatched at Loch Garten the Daily Update page is going to get too unwieldy if it is used for news from LotL as well as LG, and the "News From Other Nests" is getting pretty full as well.

  • Hello, thanks for todays updates to you all.   I am another who truly hopes Lady will migrate again this year and with any luck and a few prayers be back next year.   I could not watch her remain in Scotland as she would simply not survive and that would be too awful to watch - so I guess part of my hoping she migrates is purely a selfish one knowing how the weather in Scotland is and how undoubtly the rivers and lochs will freeze thus stopping her from fishing.  I take it that everybody has had their fare share of fish today - neither of blogs seem to have caught many deliveries but the LOTL official blog seems to think Laird is doing a great job.

  • is that chick 2 on the nest with a fish as chick 1 looks on. Wow that makes a change.   Chick with fish has a bit more white on his head which makes me think the younger.

  • Hooray!!!!

Chick 2 grabbed a fish from the Laird at 9:25 :-)

If nothing goes right, go left! :-)

  • Yes Lmac :-)

Chick 2 has a whiter head than chick1

If nothing goes right, go left! :-)

  • I am going now.

Good night all and sleep well.

    Bye

If nothing goes right, go left! :-)

  • Aww Bless. It is gulping it down!!

    Goodnight :-)

If nothing goes right, go left! :-)

  • Thanks Sandra. Great to see #2 has got a fish.

  • Hi everyone.

Thanks for all the brilliant pics and updates.  I really do hope that Lady Marge puts on enough weight to migrate.  I'd love to see her make it to her winter home, and even if this is her last year breeding in Scotland, at least her final migration will be a successful one.  Then again experts were very surprised that she returned this year so although a return in 2011 doesn't seem likely, I wouldn't be that shocked if the Lady of the Loch surprised us all once more.

  • Hi Paul. There is no doubt that we would all love to see Lady migrate and return for another season in 2011 but while her spirit is there - unquestionably - her body must surely be weakened severely after the earlier events of the summer especially given her remarkable record-breaking age. Nonetheless i celebrate every day she is with us and admire her incredible fortitude.  If she migrates and then returns next spring I will initially feel faint, then worry about her until I realise what is happening and then be amazed and amazed and amazed again and then worry about her all the time she is here. I find it much easier to take each day as it comes and be so thankful that she is here at all.  As I type she is on her favourite branch which is truly wonderful. Catch you all tomorrow. Emma.

  • Good night Emma.

I think the Lady of the Loch's fortitude is one of the greatest things I've ever witnessed.  Every time I see her and think of what she went through only a few weeks ago and compare it to how she looks now, a big grin suddenly appears on my face.
