Loch of the Lowes - 2010

Thought I'd start a separate thread for the posting of news, updates, pictures etc. from the nest at the Loch of the Lowes. Now that the first chick has hatched at Loch Garten the Daily Update page is going to get too unwieldy if it is used for news from LotL as well as LG, and the "News From Other Nests" is getting pretty full as well.

  • Two days ago this scene was but a dream.  Its come true.

  • Deepest thanks to all who've posted.  I clicked on the LotL cam page with a bit of trepedation (spelling?) a few minutes ago and see the events decribed in this thread.  So I'm not going mad.  I honestly am amazed.  Okay I realise that this may just be one final rally from a fantastic Osprey who is sharing a nest with her offspring.  But I never expected to be seeing these pictures when I logged on again tonight.

Warning!  This post contains atrocious spelling, and terrible grammar.  Approach with extreme edginess.

Lynette - at least Sandra had the guts to criticise me personally, albeit publicly, rather than behind my back.  I don't know when I have been patronising.  All I do is tell it as I see it, the same as anyone else on these Forum Threads!  We have different views, and different styles of expressing them - and I thought that was the point of discussions.  If we all agreed on every point and expressed it in the same way, there would be no need for communication!

OK, didn't mean to offend and I apologise if I did.  Are you watching the latest pics, Lady is feeding herself and the two chicks, its remarkable isn't it, but still a long way to go. Peter has commented on the earlier events I notice and said she glided down to the loch etc. Only time will tell, but she seems a very resilient bird.

  • Lady is trying to eat as much of the fish as she can but the chicks seem very hungry and are trying to grab each mouthful from her.....

LOL OG, sorry that was me just saw Odin arrived whilst I was typing

All I ask is the chance to prove that money can't make me happy.

  • Annette - when you next look in, I remember you were brave enough to suggest the word 'better'.  There is no doubt that she has improved and is therfore better.  The word that keeps bouncing into my head as a mother (like yourself) with experience of  inexplicable medical events which is of course -  'virus'.  With  this much much happier scene - I am off to adjust the dress.  For now, happier viewing everyone.

EDIT:  Two typos edited.  If only I were a better typist...

Welome Sheryl from another besotted by osprey person.

Thank you, Margobird.  As I say, I'm familiar with all your names as I've read most of the blogs - bit of a lurker really!!  The events of the last few days just made me want to say something.  I first started watching at LG last year and followed the progress of Rothes, Mallachie and Garten.  This year has been fantastic there too.  But I have to take my hat off to this beautiful Lady at LoTL - what a tower of strength!

  • Incredible!! Just absolutely Incredible!!

Let us just hope and Pray that she will get a lot stronger.

    My Prayers have been answerd!!

    Good night.

If nothing goes right, go left! :-)

  • Welcome to this thread Sheryl.  I have seen you post in the past.  Osprey-watching takes over your life and the RSPB blog is absolutely wonderful. Such a great group of people.

  • Thanks, Lynette.  Yes I have been watching and I commented at 9:09pm, when the feed was happening.  My worry now is that if this is a temporary “reprieve” the male is going to get even more confused, but as time is passing, the chicks are gradually more able to feed themselves, so as long as he continues fishing for them all should be well with the two of them.  I am also concerned about the dud egg sitting there – don’t know much about eggs, but won’t it explode in the summer heat? (I hope not!!!)

Ospreys Rule OK, but Goldfinches come a close second!
