Evening all. Good grief. We already have color at LG. EJ is on the nest; all looks peaceful.
Lynette: You asked Gary where he's located. He did answer you the first time around (Saturday?), but seems you either missed it or the posts got messed up. Anyway, you asked again yesterday and Emma responded; then Gary responded again (he said he wasn't ignoring you!). Anyway, Gary is in Connecticut in the Eastern U.S., but he's a Brit, like me! (Sorry if this all sounds complicated)
Thanks for all the reports and captures one and all:) Been out all afternoon so missed the action. Glad EJ ate until she was full.
Yes Sandy, the difference in the daylight hours is really showing now. I can always notice the difference when I visit family in the NW of England from down here in E. Sussex.
The chick made its way out of its shell at about 0415 BST on Sunday, having taken a few days to break through A crack appeared in the egg on Friday, widening to a small hole on Saturday evening, before the chick burst through to freedom on Sunday
From article dated Monday 19th May, 2008 on the BBc site - having looked it up as " how long osprey chick to break out of egg"
This is the best I could find - hope it helps
EJ looks settled for the night with just a little fidgiting now and again.

jsb said: Did anyone answer Annette's query, re chick's time taken to exit the egg? Chipping the shell from the inside will be tricky, my 'boy scout' recollections were that birds in the egg stage have a specially shaped tip on the beak, but no reference to the the time taken, on the web. Not too long for EJ's weans, I hope. General info from RSPB. http://www.rspb.org.uk/wildlife/birdguide/name/o/osprey/nesting.aspx Answers on a Post Card to EJ c/o LG!

Answers on a Post Card to EJ c/o LG!
I was going to post earlier that the much improved weather across the country this week had come just in time for the expected hatchings at LG (and all other osprey nests in the UK). That was until I saw the forecast for next week - oh dear!
EJ a bit restless again - turning the eggs but seems to have settled again.
Last shot of the day is EJ with her back to us and fidgiting again. Something must be happpening what with all this figiting etc. We can but live in hope.
Mr wonderful is on the nest already. He comes earlier each day
