News from here: Bonnie is recovering well; she had her operation on Monday and we were supposed to pick her up late afternoon, but the Vets rang to say we should not come for her until after 6.30pm as she was still very dopey from the anaesthetic. When my OH brought her home, all she wanted to do was sleep, and she had a good night that night. In the morning she ate two small meals, and was still very quiet until a visit from my Friend late morning. Then she was excited, and picked up. That afternoon we had to take her into the garden on a lead so that she wouldn't leap around.
When I cooked our meal, she was watching me as if hungry, so I gave her a full meal which she soon downed. Then, whilst we were eating, she howled to be let out, so my OH decided to let her out without the lead, but he stood by. I was still eating when he returned, alone, and looking disturbed. He said "I can't tell you what's happened......". It turned out that as soon as she was outside, Bonnie ran into the bushes, and rustled around, emerging with another Blackbird chick in her mouth. He chased her for a while, then had to give up. We think it was another chick from the same clutch.
She was banished to her bed for the evening and the crate for the night. Today, you would never know she has had an operation, she is full of life. The wound looks clean and healthy and she is not biting it, so has only worn the lampshade at night.
Margo - So pleased you and your OH had such a nice anniversary - that restaurant looks and sounds lovely.
Daisy had a simple op on her foot..
Had to be kept clean and dry for a week Lindy so it was a lead for 7 days she hated it but needs must.
OG this is the first busy year for ages and all these people have been lovely. All have met Daisy and loved her ... If they didn't I probably wouldn't be as caring.
Lots of chats about referendum.. Interesting...
Evening all:
Margo: Wonderful to see a long and cheery post from you! I enjoyed the story of your culinary adventures. Had to say, I initially - for just a moment -thought complementary soap indicated a new standard in finger bowls - and as for clothing-optional steaks, well, what can I say? :-)) Seriously, I really like the look of The Langton Arms. I can imagine that goldfish pond is going to get more visits from that osprey - great shots. I see that the homeowner wanted to remain anonymous, which made me wonder if it was his name that appeared as a credit on those photos. Have a fab time out Friday and hope the storm will pass you by.
Brenda: I can imagine a fireball would be more than a little disconcerting.
Heather: Oh I know that feeling of just enjoying being at home and quiet. After family left, a 2K+ mile drive and and multiple motels, I didn't want to step outside my front door.
Wendyb: Enjoy LotL and fingers crossed for good boating weather. Thanks for explaining Tupperware Day - I thought it meant meals you'd cooked and then frozen in said containers. How nice that you're helping out hapless tourists. You probably made their day, if not their vacation.
Clare: Hmmm. Re the lady MP, things sound as ridiculous there as here (although that would be hard). But watch out how loudly you say you like "directness for a change" or you'll end up with the UK version of The Donald. How's the job?
OG: Stick-on prisms? Never heard of those. Oh how infuriating about the dishwasher guy - and what a lame excuse for not showing up. Be prepared to throw yourself in front of his van next Tuesday. Just saw the news about the Ecuador earthquakes - one more thing (like Diane's fireball) that didn't make any of our news programs. Six whales including 3 calves today, but yes, it's slowing down.
Lindybird: Hmmm. Maybe you could ask the vet for some tranquilizers for Bonnie (or you and OH).
AQ: Do hope you're feeling better very soon. How is daughter coping with you being laid up for so long?
Green waste pick up day today so I spent all morning in the garden tidying up the Olive trees and Lavender. The former was growing out at eye level on the sidewalk and the latter was smothering the germander, which is getting ready to bloom. Expect to be out there again tomorrow...
Have a good Thursday everyone.

The job's going well - thanks for asking!
Our herring gulls are red listed birds. Think about that the next time you hear some flaming idiot calling for a cull of them.
I see there were problems in posting or accessing the Forum, yesterday. Today I am getting strange messages and that awful "An error occurred" box, so this may not post! Let's see.....
Well, its posted, but a comment I put on the Blog just now has not appeared. Which may explain why there are no comments at all on the Blog Page, after the recent Birth Announcement.
Good Morning, All. Dry here and no rain until later, so I am feeding the w. machine and trying to catch up on the internet, as I have not been very active on it for a while. Yesterday went out for lunch with my Friend: we had a Garden Centre treat, and she had an enormous Prawn Salad, whilst I had an Omelette with bacon, onions and herbs with Sweet Potato Chips on the side, plus some mixed Leaves, and some Coleslaw which Friend ate, as I can't manage raw cabbage these days :-( She bought some plants and a smelly thing which wafts nice perfume into the air. I only bought a birthday card.
We didn't rush and did lots of talking, so were there for about two hours!
Replies from me to recent postings, later: must go and refill said w.machine and dry my hair!
Hi all, as always its good to read all your news and goings on and of course still watching all of the nests.
I need help and advice regarding rats in my garden. I have always fed the birds and have 3 hanging seed feeders and also a small tray on the patio covered by a cage to stop seagulls and pigeons eating it all. But I also have a rat or rats that are very bold and come right onto the patio to eat from the tray. They are also great climbers and shoot up the fence and hang to eat out of the feeders. I have been searching the internet for something that is not rat poison and have ordered some stuff and also some peppermint oil as that is supposed to be a deterrent but if anyone has any other ideas please so let me know as I couldn't bear a garden without birds.
My third attempt at posting, so just a test.
