A new month and lots to look forward to as we eagerly await these precious eggs which Maya and Blue 33(11) have devotedly protected, hatch!
For anyone new and just starting to watch the Rutland Manton Bay Webcam, here is a brief summary of the 2016 season so far:
The resident female, Maya returned 21 March. Her mate Blue 33(11) returned 27 March. Maya has laid three eggs, #1 on 4 April, #2 on 7 April and #3 on 10 April. Maya and 33(11) are currently sharing incubating duties and we should see a hatch around the second week in May.
Happy viewing
Morning all, a pretty dull start to the day. Maya keeping her eggs cosy in among all that straw.

Good morning all. Karen thankyou for the summary of events at the Manton Bay nest, a very good idea, nice to have an idea of the dates of their returns and when the eggs were laid.
33 arrives with a stick
then settles beside Maya
And as I type, he has got up and flown
Does anyone know who Maya temporarily paired with when Blue 33 swept in and kicked out the eggs and took over. Proving to be an excellent partner for Maya. Was it Blue 28? What became of him I think he had his own nest last year (not sure!)
Poor Maya! It must be like having an OH who collects clutter and junk!
33 comes back with some nesting material then starts placing his stick from earlier.
33 then goes to Maya. She rises, flies off and 33 settles down to incubate.

Good Morning Willow. I just thought having the dates and also hyperlinks to the blogs if anyone wanted more details about the event would be helpful. Glad you think the summary is a good idea - Thanks.

Willow, yes it was 28(10).
28(10) has done well for himself. He paired up with 2F(12), who is his sister last year and raised chicks. They are paired up again this year and incubating eggs. Also 28(10) is getting a mention from Horn Mill, the trout farm where they fish as being very much in charge and and chasing off the others.
I am pleased all worked out for him.
Thanks Karen - You beat me to it, I have deleted my post :)
I will just add that he was the first male to return to Rutland this year.

While posting, there was a change over ..
Maya arrived and she started tidying up, trying to secure the sticks while 33 incubated.
But as Maya worked away, quite funny seeing 33 getting the odd poke from Maya. Perhaps she was just getting her own back :-D. 33 obviously had had enough, rose and then took off
Maya now incubating and I must go too! SYL
