Weekly Chat (Non-Osprey), 17 January 2016

HAPPY NEW WEEK!

Last week's chat thread is here.

I saw R. T. Hawk on Thursday. It's been so cold here that I had to put the battery charger on my car for a long while. I went out as the sun was setting to remove it. R. T. screeched at me when I went out the front door. When I closed the car bonnet/hood, he screamed at me loudly and flew around his tree. I think he was telling me off for disturbing him when it was time to roost in his tree. He called more gently when I went indoors. :-)))

Everyone have a wonderful week. Roll on spring!!!

  • By the way, George, it's good to know you're all right!

Our herring gulls are red listed birds.  Think about that the next time you hear some flaming idiot calling for a cull of them.

  • Just been watching pictures of the arrival of the winter storm, on the tv news. People have emptied the stores of their food. When you are threatened by at least a foot of snow and hurricane winds, I can understand why they need to buy so much. They don't know how long they could be trapped in their homes.

  • Brenda: Also, many are buying food items that they don't have to cook/heat, because widespread power outages are likely. Even if people had food, the raw meat, frozen vegetables, etc. wouldn't be much help in a power outage.

  • It really must be so frightening for them, Diane. I see Washington is threatened by 2' of snow now. A major threat to life too. I hope people have heeded the warnings and stay indoors. The hurricane winds will do damage too, as well as the weight of the snow on the buildings. I guess there will be massive snow drifts.

  • Hi, all. I saw this house/cabin on Facebook, and I want it. :-)))

OG: Glad you enjoyed some cake at your favorite place today. Good to be kind to yourself right now.

Heather: I'm glad your rash is gone, but I hope that disposing of the old duvet completely resolves the problem. It probably will.

George: Nice that you're enjoying your local library. Hope you get good medical results.

Lindy: I'm glad your ankle is better and your knee is recovered. I'm sorry that you and your brother are so estranged. It must be very sad for you. Maybe someday that can change.

Annette: Congrats on the garden tidy-up. You're more productive than I am. I really should have mowed one more time before winter set in. But the grass is covered by snow now, so I don't have to look at it. LOL Fascinating to see all the animal prints. I've had a lot of deer on my patch.

    Have a good weekend all.

  • Brenda: It will be very frightening for folks in the east. Lots of dangers to face. I hope everyone is as prepared as possible. It's especially bad for people with medical issues, who depend on oxygen machines, prescription drugs, nebulisers, and so on. I feel bad for everyone.

  • Evening all: A busy day here, but got a lot of errands taken care off and managed to top it off with a visit to the gym.

George: A library is a very good thing to have within walking distance (ours is just 5 minutes away).  Hope your appointment with the doc is early in the day so you don't have to go too long without eats.

Lindybird: Good luck with the new fence.

Brenda: My mother cooked with lard and we had huge fried breakfasts - but no car, so we walked everywhere in all weather. Maybe we burned all that "bad" fat off.

dibnlib: Have a nice couple of days away. Hope the weather is good to you.

Clare: That is one handsome - and nervy - magpie.

Diane: I love those Tiny Houses.

Re the storm, the reporter on the news tonight noted that not only were the store shelves empty of food, but wine supplies had disappeared too.  :-)

    Have a good Saturday all.

  • dibnlib: Have a nice holiday.

Annette: LOL about the wine. I noticed that a lot of the news sites had suggestions for the best TV shows and movies to stream and binge watch. LOL

ABC News is showing livestreaming views of the winter storm hitting Times Square in New York City, the White House in Washington D.C., and the city of Philadelphia. I don't know whether folks in the U.K. can watch these or not.

All: Happy Full Moon Saturday night.

  • Diane: DC images a blur; NY still awake and wet; wouldn't want to be driving in Philly right now. Hope the webcams will be on in the a.m.

    Sleep tight!
