HAPPY NEW WEEK!

Last week's chat thread is here.

I saw R. T. Hawk on Thursday. It's been so cold here that I had to put the battery charger on my car for a long while. I went out as the sun was setting to remove it. R. T. screeched at me when I went out the front door. When I closed the car bonnet/hood, he screamed at me loudly and flew around his tree. I think he was telling me off for disturbing him when it was time to roost in his tree. He called more gently when I went indoors. :-)))

Everyone have a wonderful week. Roll on spring!!!

Clare - love your pics, and the one of Helen competing too. Hope you are feeling a little more settled. Did you manage to secure a job or are you just working at Minsmere.

Thanks, Lynette - and to everyone else who has enjoyed my photos!  I still haven't got a paid job so to be able to volunteer at Minsmere is an absolute godsend - it's so wonderful to have something worthwhile to do and everyone there is really friendly.

Today is Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Day in the U.S. I honor Dr. King and all those who've struggled for justice and equality in America. Even though I was only 10, I remember well the horror and sadness I felt the day he was killed. This is my favorite of Dr. King's quotes:

"If you can't fly then run,
if you can't run then walk,
if you can't walk then crawl,
but whatever you do you have to keep moving forward."

That is absolutely spot on.  I was actually born in the year he was killed - looking back it seems incredible that people could possibly have been treated in such an uncivilised way, just for being black.  He must have been an amazing man.

I think riding is a brilliant activity for young girls in terms of building their self confidence.  My daughter wanted to ride from age10 and is still riding. It's an expensive hobby.  :-)

Tell me about it.  It's worth the cost, though - the look of joy on Helen's face when she canters around the arena is lovely to see.

  • Good morning, all!  I'm off to Minsmere today - I'm particularly looking forward to it as I will get to meet Harelady, who is coming along for one of our walks!  Naturally I'll be taking my camera.

  • Continuing the recent run of bad news, the excellent Glenn Frey has died at the age of 67.  RIP.

  • Clare: Glenn Frey was a great songwriter! He and Don Henley wrote one of my favorite rock ballads: Desperado. Have a good day at Minsmere. Tell HareLady hello from me.

I'm so glad that's been spotted so far from our coast!!  They are magnificent but I wouldn't want one anywhere near me.

  • Good Morning, All.  Dry here, and a dramatic pink & scarlet sunrise is outside my bedroom window.

I wouldn't want to meet that shark, either!  Heard reports that a monster sized one had been seen.

Diane -  Dr. M. L. King was certainly a giant among men- what I always admired was the fact that he must have known his days were numbered.

One of my favourite songs, "Desperado"...... very special. I was sorry to hear about Glenn Frey.

  • Clare -  Enjoy meeting Harelady - I remember enjoying some of her hare pics which she posted, years ago now.

I wonder if that was the same one seen beneath Henley Beach jetty twice in last 24 hours. Henley is 5 mins dive from us. And no, I don't go swimming, don't even own bathers.
