Weekly Chat (Non-Osprey), 10 January 2016

HAPPY NEW WEEK!

Last week's Chat Thread is here.

I posted a long list of replies at the end of last week's thread.

Saturday night in the U.S. and Sunday morning in the U.K. is the New Moon (the dark moon) -- the first one of 2016. See here for a list of monthly astronomical events for this year.

Wow, is it dreary here! So I'm inserting a colourful flower for this week's pic. :-) Everyone have a wonderful week.

  • I have a heated small blanket which was my Mothers.  Its only the size of say, a large cushion, but its cuddly and flexible and you can put it over your knees or around a sore shoulder, as a comfort.  It plugs into the mains on a long cable.

I also have a sausage shaped bag of wheat which you can heat in the microwave and put around an aching part of the body, or just use as a kind of hot water bottle - its very safe when used, although you have to be careful in the microwave as some people have set them alight by leaving them in for too long!!

  • OGsorry to read you are unwell, thinking of you and hoping you feel better soon.

  • Just re-read everything from today, as we've had quite a flurry of entries.

Rosy - sorry to hear that your OH is still poorly: do hope the new meds do the trick, although you will have to wait at least a couple of days to see if they have the desired effect.

  • I was baking cake earlier on, as we are off to visit the family in the Midlands tomorrow. As I broke the eggs, I thought that Bonnie might enjoy one: she likes them raw and I often used to give them to other dogs we've had as I understand they're good for their coats.

However, half an hour later she was suddenly very sick. My OH admitted that she'd been eating something which looked long dead whilst out in the fields, so that must be the reason. She looked sorry for herself afterwards and is now asleep next to me, upside down.

  • Margo: Wonderful to hear from you. I'm so glad that your OH's boss will give him additional time off. I'm also pleased that sweet Billie is such a great companion for you. I know you will enjoy your upcoming concert. Hope you got to see the spacewalk. Sending you strength!

OG: What a horrifying night for you! I'm so sorry. I hope that whatever the original problem was has now been resolved and you're improving. Definitely take it very easy over the weekend. No cleaning, cooking, or anything. Watch TV and read. Sending you strong healing energy!

Lindy: I hope you have a wonderful time with your family and the visit will help you feel cheerier. I will watch for The Great Barrier Reef show.

Clare: I was already cantankerous when I popped out of the womb. :-) I enjoyed your photos very much. I loved the woodpecker.

Annette: Glad your daughter returned safely. I know you will miss Peanut.

Rosy: I'm sorry that your OH was poorly today. Best wishes to him.

    ChrisyB: Your photo is lovely!

Heather: I have one of those heated (plug-in, electric) throws that Annette mentioned, and I don't know what I'd do without it!!! I put it over me when I'm on the computer during the day, and then take it to bed with me at night. Mine is 50"x60", but I wish it were a little bigger. It was my Dad's; he used to get so cold. The dog loved it so much. If my Dad got out of his chair, the dog would pull the throw off and try to cuddle up on it! (He had his own warm bed with a quilt. :-) I always took the throw away from him if I caught him, because I was afraid he'd drool on it (he was a boxer) and get a jolt! I think the wires are well shielded, though. Here are some available in U.K.

Here in the Midwest, the historical societies and the library genealogy departments take personal journals like Sheana's.

    Everyone have a good weekend.

  • Margo – Great to see a long post from you. Your OH has a brilliant boss.

Thrift shops? We call them Op shops, as in Opportunity.

OG – I hope are feeling better. It’s awful how Emergency can’t cope with patients. We have people having to remain in ambulances because there is nowhere to put them. They call it “ramping’. Plenty of money for politicians but not for health.

Heather – Do check if  a historical society would accept Sheana’s journals. I know how much I appreciate reading “how it was”. Just think how special her thoughts will be in a 100 years.

Cantankerous? No, I want to be eccentric when I’m old. . . and that is surely a long way off. LOL

Shortened nanny day yesterday was a pleasure. MissJ woke from nap first as usual. While waiting for MissL to wake up, Dau fell asleep on lounge, despite MissJ prodding her with toys. Finally I fed MissJ her lunch, then woke MissL for hers (otherwise she’d never go to bed in evening). Ham sandwich (dissected LOL) and watermelon. Dau woke eventually and approved. Later I escorted twins outside – they love being out – to play in trampoline, laughing as they fell down, with me making faces and lion noises through the mesh. When they tired of that, they played with the toy turtle in its plastic pond. MissJ was dabbling her hands in the water and “washing” her hair, her ears and MissL copied. Both ended sitting in a puddle and were saturated. Bath? Who needs a bath?

PS- This time when I had to sign in, it actually asked did I want it to remember my password. Wow! Progress!

Wait... I thought you lived in Australia? When did you move to the U.S.?  (LOL)

Please post a video of you making lion noises. Seriously.

I'll bet those girls are adorable.

  • AQ: Is this the shape of nanny duty to come? I like it!

Diane: Maybe it's time to splurge on a full size electric blanket.

Washing machine has been going nonstop. And guess what's on tomorrow's agenda!

  • Good morning, all!  It's another lovely day here - very cold and clear, with a nice breeze the washing will appreciate (it's always joyful putting washing out when it's freezing!).  That'll teach me to live in a house without enough space for a tumble drier - though I do vastly prefer line drying.

I'm currently watching this stunning bird on a webcam in New South Wales:

Isn't she absolutely beautiful?  I wouldn't want to be on the receiving end of those talons, though.

Our herring gulls are red listed birds.  Think about that the next time you hear some flaming idiot calling for a cull of them.

  • Wrote a long post, that'll teach me!! Whole thing would not post & now it's disappeared..
