Weekly Chat (Non-Osprey), 10 January 2016

HAPPY NEW WEEK!

Last week's Chat Thread is here.

I posted a long list of replies at the end of last week's thread.

Saturday night in the U.S. and Sunday morning in the U.K. is the New Moon (the dark moon) -- the first one of 2016. See here for a list of monthly astronomical events for this year.

Wow, is it dreary here! So I'm inserting a colourful flower for this week's pic. :-) Everyone have a wonderful week.

  • Sorted my photos out - just click on this little stunner to see the rest:

Our herring gulls are red listed birds.  Think about that the next time you hear some flaming idiot calling for a cull of them.

  • By the way it was great to hear from Margo - I hope you have a great time at the Joe Brown concert, you've earned it!  OG, you have my sincere sympathy.  I hope my photos put a (tired) smile on your face.

  • OG- some of Sheanas stuff was donated to the local history society as she wished. The remainder were her personal journals - interesting and touching as I found them, probably not that desirable ?

If you've found them interesting it's likely other people might as well.  You might talk to the local history society about them - they might be able to identify a destination for them.

  • Perhaps I was I influenced by her nephew, CLARE, he said that they wouldn't be of any interest...

I knew her so well that I could read the things that were only hinted at in her writings.
  • She sounds like she had a lot of interesting things written down.  I wish I'd known her.

  • A unique, eccentric, innovative and amazing person, CLARE !!

  • Cantankerous?  That's what I want to be when I'm old.

  • OG:  Oh no fun being trundled off to the ER only to be stuck in a corridor and sent home with an assortment of "probablys" and "possiblys."  Still, nothing obviously worrisome it seems; more likely a combination of things.  Sounds like a slow weekend would be a good plan.

Heather: Check out Amazon for heated throws - they typically measure 50" x 60."  Reading of Sheana's unrealized dreams and hopes would be pretty depressing it seems to me. But what about the Mass Observation project ("Recording everyday life in Britain")? Could they possibly used her diaries? Maybe check out their website at http://www.massobs.org.uk. (They have a Personal Papers section, which includes diaries).  Or as OG and Clare suggest, a local museum?  Not to be rude, but Sheana's nephew clearly suffers from a lack of imagination!

  • I'm only 'sort of old' and I'm already cantankerous, Clare!!!  Thanks for your photos, just going back to look......

But I've only just come on and found OG's bad news, what a tiring night you had, and what a muddle!  These days you can't be sure of admission to hospital unless you're a real emergency.  I do hope you were able to rest for some of today, so that you could get through it.  And of course, that you feel better as time goes on.... maybe you have a slight infection which has upset your system.
