HAPPY NEW WEEK!
Last week's Chat thread is HERE.
Saturday evening was perihelion, the time when Earth reaches its closest point to the Sun for this year. Hello, Sun!
I hope everyone has a wonderful first full week of 2016!

Heather, I saw a TV report on the methane gas leak. People were being interviewed about health problems they are now suffering from. Dogs with facial sores. Also people asking what it is doing to the environment and how far the leak is spreading. They are admitting that it has been leaking since last October, but now you wonder how true is that statement. Give yourself some time before you start trying to sort out what you do with Sheana's memorabilia. It may become easier with time.
OG, Sorry you are feeling tired. I hope it is just an early reaction and it will become less of a problem for you. X
Good evening, all. Spent most of today at Minsmere - it has been a beautiful day on the Suffolk coast and I managed to take a fair number of photos, including this one:
Goldfinches are such beautiful birds and I thought this might put a smile on OG's face.
Our herring gulls are red listed birds. Think about that the next time you hear some flaming idiot calling for a cull of them.
BRENDA I didn't see it on TV but what I heard on the radio was worrying. I'm sure that I heard that people were being evacuated from their houses. ANNETTE will tell us, later, I am sure, how things are.
And yes, difficult to think of getting rid of Sheana's journals. I have found myself weepy today. OH keeps saying that she wasn't a relative but he really doesn't understand how fond I was of her. Her nephew says I was the daughter she never had. I don't know about that but truth to tell I had a more joyful relationship with Sheana than with my own mother :-(
Okay, so it is winter! The heavy rain started as we got into the car to go out this morning, and the temp dropped to 2 degrees C. It rained all the way through our journey there, time at the hospital, shopping and part way home. As we crossed the border, we met light sleet, and the temp dropped to 0.5, as we met snow-covered cars coming from Scotland – and here at home we found there had been a brief snow shower, which was just managing to slide off our solar panels and melt among the grass.
Brenda – how good of your OH’s niece to take in the flooded neighbours. The colder weather is also not a good time to be without power!
Annette – I ate most of a cheese sandwich at lunchtime, and have just had a small dinner; I shall not be wasting away! We have booked a table for lunch at the Old Toll Bar on Monday, but I mustn’t order more than I can eat! Sorry about your wrist: I think that was something I missed out of my lazy reading through Christmas!
Linda – now then, do you have somewhere to store all these Christmas bargains – and will you remember next December where they are? And don’t forget you already have some books put away too! The reindeer sounds fun – what did Bonnie think of him?
Wendy – pleased you are okay up there – sounds a good drive around today (with mist around GoS sounding about normal normal!) I could imagine Daisy and her ears, probably with her head tilted to one side, listening to the lecture but not heeding it!
Heather – it was probably the bicarb which gave the aftertaste to that cake; best not to eat cake if one can’t have real cake! Pleased the dinner went well – sorry you were left with so much of the memorabilia to dispose of, and that you are finding it hard.
Clare – lovely Goldfinch photo; thanks for thinking of me. Glad you had a good day at Minsmere!
Might be going out tomorrow afternoon, to a reception marking the evacuation of British Troops from Gallipoli a hundred years ago on that day, and the opening of a new exhibition about it, to start the new year’s opening. If really wet or unbearably cold, we shall stay at home.
Ospreys Rule OK, but Goldfinches come a close second!

OG yes she is such a clown you can't take her seriously...
I am such a softy there was one little boy I could have brought home:-(
Heather I never had a close relationship with my mum and I think it was more her loss than mine.
Feeders very busy and found new supplier that delivers for free which up here is a total bonus.
Our Goldfinches have quadrupled over the last 3 years and Longtailed tits come for 10 mins and then vanish. Best this year are Bullfinches gorgeous and rare for here.
Very envious of the Bullfinches, Wendy!
I think weather is changing as we never had Jays or Magpies...
No aye aye captain ( one magpie) but we get Jays the other side of the river.
Lovely Goldie pic, Clare.
OG - I have already stored the small things I bought, with the Christmas stuff. We put all of it away when I got home, under the stairs, so the new bits could go with them. When we finished, I turned out the lights, and sighed with relief. Then an hour later I found a mysterious plastic bag, which turned out to be full of (4) Christmas cushions! We hadn't put them out because of the risk of Bonnie nibbling them, at Christmas, so they were lurking in a corner!!
Hope you're not feeling too tired, today.
