  • Got my desktop back today so now I can use a keyboard instead of my fingers. I have been keeping track of the stories of  everyone and enjoyed them.

I am going up to Forres for the weekend so I hope the fine weather we are having stays for a while longer. I am driving up this time instead of taking the train so I hope the A9 stays clear.

I got information from the hospital that I have to go for an Ultrasound examination next Monday and after that I hope someone will tell me what is going to happen.

I hope everybody stays well and safe and I will get back on when I come home on Monday.

  • Lindy: I hope you have a wonderful time and the wedding goes smoothly for all.

  • GEORGE- great to hear from you. Will be thinking about you on Monday, waiting to hear what 'they' decide!

We need more men on here, just you and Alan at the moment. Perhaps we can twist Eagle Eye's arm! My OH is a member of the Forum but I can hardly get him to talk to me, never mind online:-(

  • Just one quick comment before LINDA leaves: I hope you all have a wonderful time this weekend!

Ospreys Rule OK, but Goldfinches come a close second!

We recently had Antonicus post on here.  Are you a gentleman, Antonicus?  The more, the merrier!

Our herring gulls are red listed birds.  Think about that the next time you hear some flaming idiot calling for a cull of them.

  • Have a wonderful time, Linda and enjoy every moment.

    ( Love your poem. )

  • George, Have a lovely weekend., I hope with good, dry weather.  Best wishes for Monday.

  • I have a 9am appointment with my hairdresser and then have to return home, have an early lunch, get changed, to then pick up other bowling players to go to a club, which is about 30miles from here. Not far, but not great roads. We have rain forecast for tomorrow, so it could be cancelled.

We spent some time tidying the garden, dead heading, sweeping the patio and drive. OH cut the grass, although it is quite wet. The garden bin is collected tomorrow. My hanging baskets haven't done as well this year, so I have binned them.

  • Thanks for the good wishes:  will relate all about our weekend, when we get back (late Sunday).

Hope all goes well, George, will be thinking of you.

Brenda:  Hope the bowling is cancelled if it looks as if it could be unpleasant.  The only time I ever played bowls with another couple, it absolutely poured and I couldn't wait for the game to end!!  A lot of our flowers have been disappointing this year, too.  My sweet peas were hardly worth all the watering, care and feeding.

Margo:  Will still be thinking of you, and will write to you on my return. Thanks for your recent good wishes for me and the family.

Must sign off as my OH is just coming home from Boys Night Out, and I still havn't shut the suitcase!!

  • Weekend saga continued. Next morn we had a late start, pickup at 9.45 am, so plenty of time for a leisurely walk around the town. Then down the highway through Wirrabara [pronounced Wirrab – ara] & Stone Hut to Laura for a morning coffee stop as there was nowhere else on our morning route. Back north to yet another isolated Lutheran church complex, Pine Creek, this one still very much in use. A brief stop in Appila originally known as Yarrowie, then to a lovely gorge, Appila Springs. The fit ones raced down the slope to see the rocks, water, whatever. Aware of my knees, I looked from above. [Try Googling “Appila Springs” and click on “Images”]

Out to Tarcowie, passing a farmer droving a flock of sheep. The crops of wheat, canola (rape), faba beans, peas were looking lush and green. Sheep, cattle, horses. A brief stop in Tarcowie, 2 ex-churches, ex-school, hall, few houses. One resident seen. Now southwards to Jamestown for lunch. A big town but it is Sunday and only supermarket & cafe open. Drove through & around Caltowie, most of heritage buildings demolished, Georgetown, and from then on the route was the same as our previous trip. Alas the weekend over too soon.

Since I can’t post pics here, if you want to “see” these places, you will have to use Google StreetView which is great for “driving” through Aussie countryside – provided the camera car drove down that particular road! I have & will be posting photos (mostly churches) on my flickr site over next few weeks.

BTW why all the “owie” towns? Aboriginal words were popular by 1870s and “owie” in the Ngadjuri language means water. Others we didn’t see this trip – Booborowie, Canowie, Gumbowie, Kappowie, Telowie, Warcowie, Wepowie, Winninowie, Yarcowie.
