THE LG OSPREY GABFEST FOR AUGUST and SEPTEMBER, 2015

  • That aye aye looks very wierd and I wont say hes cute! They do have the yellow eyes of the ospreys.

We have recently started feeding our birds again after withdrawing food for 3 weeks because some chaffinches were seen with disease (trichomonosis?) Have not seen any disease since. We had a visit from our sparrowhawk who just missed grabbing a blue tit>  It was his lucky day, but not for the sparrowhawk :(

  • Thankyou Annette for the welcome! I supose many people who used to post on Gabfest now use Facebook! I do not use facebook although theres a lot of information to be had there! Im not very "with it" as far as social media goes :)

  • She is just SO cute!!!   IMO, that is.

Good evening June and any lurkers. Love thee train pics and what a journey that would be! Saw some news of the opening of the "borders railway linr" That Keith has mentioned and is going on a trip. The queen who is now our longest reigning monarch overtaken Queen Victoria. She was travelling on this train today(was Keith travelling with her??) LOL

I don't think Keith is that lucky, but that his journey is next week.  Maybe he will come on and tell us.

  • 58 Willow: I don't use Facebook either, though I know people who do and find it really convenient and helpful. I can barely keep up with the Weekly Chat.  Anyway, the WC welcome mat is out for anyone anytime.  June has done a great job of coming up with themes (music nights/walkabouts) on the Gabfest; I'm afraid we aren't nearly as creative on WC!  :-)

  • Annette why don't YOU COME JOIN US here at Gabfest?

We don't have enough for a music night, but we still throw in a song video now and then. Willow & I enjoy gardening and Keith joins us for a variety of other topics, including historical trains.

As for OSPREYS, there is no better informant on the forum than Keith Rogers. He regularly personally observes every major nest in the UK as well as several in Florida, USA.  ONLY Keith regularly visits the land of osprey winter homes in coastal Africa,  and has seen osprey in the vast desert of the mid-east..   Plus, he  keeps records!!

Willow too has become very knowledgeable about various nests around the UK and their occupants and habits.

So come join us any time for some fun and/or some good osprey chat.

    Everyone is always welcome.

  • June: How sweet, but oh for more hours in the day! It's one reason I don't do Facebook.  Can barely keep up with my family and local friends. With very old friends at a distance it's usually a long phone call or a flurry of e-mails every few months; they're not on Facebook either. Everyone seems to be busy, even the retired ones.  I'm afraid ospreys have fallen far down the list from my early days on the site. I used to post on the Daily Update but gave that up and now just lurk at key points in the season to see who's shown up, had chicks, etc. Still, seems the Welcome Mat is out on both threads, so that's good.

  • Good afternoon all. June love the Northern lights at LG! I dream of seeing them myself one day and once contemplated a holiday ti Norway, but it was too expensive and cannot guarantee the lights! BUT just as good to see the tremendous lightning we had last night about 02.00am! What a storm and extremely heavy downpours. I got out of bed to watch. It caused one of my cats to growl and hes used to being outside in all weathers! Hes as rough as guts!

  • I think our swallows have departed as Ive not seen any around for a few days:( I SO miss them and their endless twittering. I wonder if the knew to get going before the turn of bad weather arrives. I hope this is not affecting our ospreys.  Rutlands 30(05) is already back. So i wonder if our dear Odin and EJ are back already leaving us to suffer the raging storms while they sun themselves on a sunny beach! 30(05) holiday home look idyllic.
