It is a huge privilege to start this new thread, especially after a day like yesterday.
I would like to take this opportunity to thank my mother, father, all ospreys worldwide and Tiger for drawing in his claws and stepping back.
I wish us all a less confused day of watching and attempting to interpret, and EJ and Odin the very best luck in the world in their defence of the most famous Osprey nest in the world.
Greetings all fellow 'midnighters'.
Some people think Ospreys are a matter of life and death. I don't like that attitude. I can assure them it is much more serious than that.
It looks as if Odin decided that his needs for a fish were more important, or he wasn't ' allowed' near to the nest, or mistaken identity ???????
I'm starting to wonder if the guys were right yesterday, and Odin has a nest on the side. It's not unheard of you know, and now that EJ has lost her eggs, he's spending more time there.
I did ask a couple of weeks back, why did Odin keep disappearing for HOURS on end, and why only up to half a fish a day. If he's feeding two girls, it would explain it, and that's where he could have been when he went MIA. Of course we'll never know unless someone like RD spots him "at it"

You could be right MOFFER. As you say, it does happen.
Moffer, that is exactly my thought this morning knowing he caught a fish just before 5am. Could people be right with the 2nd nest theory?
Normally that fish would be beheaded and brought to EJ. But not a sign of it today... It could explain the change of behaviour we've observed, for sure. Not to mention the prolonged absence ...
Let's just add it to the very long and growing list of things we simply do not know :)

She's UP!
For nothing?!
Down again.
IMAGICAT
EJ thought that fish was coming in then and started to get up to take it, but no :(
Her calling is relentless now. I'm interested to see who will finally bring her some fish. After yesterday - and all of the previous week - she has earned a trawler full.
Our herring gulls are red listed birds. Think about that the next time you hear some flaming idiot calling for a cull of them.
OK, work beckons now... see you all later tonight!
I hope today brings a few more answers, an unequivocally clear sighting of Odin, and some FISH!
Or could it simply be that as many others think the bird at Aviemore is NOT Odin.
Good point Lmac. Food for thought...
Right, I'm off definitely now! :)
