Happy New Week

Must remember that there are people in this country who think it is fun to shoot wildlife.

Yes, there are - my ideal punishment for the ones who target our lovely birds of prey would involve a long walk, a cliff and an anvil.

Our herring gulls are red listed birds.  Think about that the next time you hear some flaming idiot calling for a cull of them.

  • Margobird - If you don't mind my asking, what is Billie's story?

  • Starling Billie was a stray. She appared over 4 years ago and lived in our garden through the most awful winter, lots of snow and freezing cold. Every time she saw me or my OH she would run away  so initially we called Billie Whizz. We put food and water out for her so she that is   knew where she could come for it but still run away every time she saw us watching. After 6 months she finally decided she coukd trust us and I was over the moon when she let me stroke her. The rest is history as she quickly made her home with us and after a vet check we could truly call her ours as she had not been chipped. She is fine with us but highly nervous of anyone she does not know. Can only think someone had been unkind whike she was homeless. By fluke we found out that she had been owned by a family not far from us. She had been on top of their car underneath a luggage box and they had driven off not knowing she was there. We had also wondered why she only had one eye and found out that she had been hit by a car and her previous owners had rushed her to the vet where unfortunately they had to remove her eye. I was so relieved that her previous owners decided she should stay with   us as we had both become very attached to her. She has been such a help to me while I continue to fight leukemia. OH works so she is my constant companion who seems to sense when I am not feeling too good. That is Billie's story so far and we look forward to,her being with us for a long time.

  • Thank you Margo, she is lucky to have found you, and I'm so glad the previous owners said she could stay :)

I have had 2 stray cats over the years, like you it took a long time to build the trust, but they would not live inside.  I never did find out their story, they just arrived one day thin, starving and one who was a long haired cat with very matted fur. I spent ages making friends until eventually they would allow me to feed them and stroke them, but always insisted in leaving after.  I often used to wonder if they had ever been loved.  The last one I had was knocked down and killed Feb 2013 I was heartbroken, never again I said, but I know if another turned up I would be there for it :)

Edit - Make that 3, how could I forget my first stray cat who lived with me for 17 years!

  • Good afternoon all have been away for a while but have been keeping up to date with all that has been going on on the pet scene. I do not think that spaniels ever get out of the digging of holes because  Diesel was digging holes in the grass till the end.

My SiL has had operation and is back home and her son and his wife stayed with her for a the first week but she said that she is now glad to get the house to herself as she can lie down whenever she feels like it. She got her stitches out on Monday and she goes back tomorrow to have the wound checked. I call in most days to see if she is needing anything at the shops and to keep her up to date as to the goings on. I am also helping her sister to do internet shopping as the Tesco store that she used to use has closed and all the other supermarkets are on the outskirts of the town and from where she lives there is no direct bus and if she were to use a taxi it would cost approx £10 each way which then makes shopping expensive.

I hope everyone has an enjoyable Osprey season and keeps well

  • Please: never agree to buy a puppy by meeting the seller on a car park!  This trade must be stopped.

Ospreys Rule OK, but Goldfinches come a close second!

  • Hello all

Just popping in quickly to say hello and thanks for your chat.

OH got new lens in his specs today following cataract surgery. I asked him if I looked any better today than yesterday. He didn't know what to say.....

  • Spring bounced back at 10 o’clock this morning – it has been a lovely day, and is still sunny as I begin this! I planted the seeds in the greenhouse and we were able to move earlier seedlings into the unheated plastic greenhouses, and do a few other tasks. Still can’t get onto the final border and the area under the birch tree, which are the last parts needing weeding – still damp in the shade.

J spring-cleaned his room yesterday, so OH only had to clean our bedroom and run around with the vacuum cleaner today, and I ironed yesterday’s washing, and dried today’s outside, which has formed a pile of its own!

Brenda – I think our window cleaner must be in for his op at last, as he didn’t turn up in March; I hope OH will feel inspired to do outside as well as in – they look worse when the sun shines.

AQ – I hope you baked that cake for OH on your day off, and then took the rest of the day to relax with some “me-time”!

Clare – no pets, but the Woodpigeons are also “full of the joys …”! I echo Linda’s request for more photos of your birds.

Dibnlib – sorry that bug is still persisting. We shall be up again in October, so hope to meet up then.

Margo – good to see your long post and read that you are feeling a bit better as the time progresses since chemo – and certainly glad you are still here! Daughter and partner have been back in the house three weeks now, but the builder has failed to make his “snagging” visit despite various promises, so OH was helping sort out some things which were wrong. The whole episode was such a nightmare, that she did make a formal complaint to the insurance company, about their shortcomings and those of the builder. She still doesn’t know whether she can definitely keep the house, so can’t yet go ahead with some improvements she would like to make.

George – good to see a post from you again. Pleased your SiL is doing well, and I hope her check-up tomorrow is satisfactory. You are always so good to her and her Sister too; I hadn’t realised Tesco there had already closed!

Heather – it already seems so long since we were chatting last week! I am pleased OH got his new lens, and hope he is happy with the result – but that was a cheeky question to ask him!

Well, sunshine is now reduced to reflected light as it sets, but the sky is still very blue. Going to the dentist tomorrow to have something done – not sure what; it’s a 30 minute appointment so can’t be anything too dreadful!

Ospreys Rule OK, but Goldfinches come a close second!

  • LOL Heather!!!!!! I'm still giggling!!!!!
  • Dibnlib: I was away I think, when you should have met up with OG & EE. Sorry to hear that you're still poorly. These things take time so be kind to yourself.
