On March 6, NASA's Dawn spacecraft will arrive at the dwarf planet Ceres. Ceres is the largest object in the asteroid belt between Mars and Jupiter.
The Dawn space probe will spend several months observing Ceres and sending back the first close-up images of a dwarf planet in our solar system. You can watch the spacecraft's arrival at Ceres on a special broadcast of the Slooh Observatory:

Scientists have already detected mysterious bright spots on Ceres and are anxious to discover what they are. INFO

Woops! Looks like I haven’t made a “proper” post since yesterday morning, so will keep replies brief! I just saw what I wrote yesterday about winter being over – today was 7 degrees, but the wind chill made it feel oh-so-cold. Having failed to find our previous shed man today, I think OH is going to order from someone else tomorrow, if they can fulfil the spec I have drawn up, as he has to see them about a replacement glass light for the cold frame (decided the sellotaped one from last year isn’t good enough!)
Margo – your extended weekend sounded excellent! What a shame about the changeable weather, especially having to stay in the car at Sidmouth and Seaton; I remember riding on the Seaton Tramway some years ago. I hope you can find that new-to-you pub again another time, if it isn’t in a place you know! Pleased you can look forward to OH having some further days off.
Brenda – the “Challenges” talk last evening was interesting and entertaining – a locally well-known features journalist talking about her life in newspapers, radio and television and now freelance, mostly in magazines.
Heather – I do hope your daughter soon finds a house to rent; it is very unsettling for them, especially having been home-owners before. I am sure you wish they would accept your help to buy now and remove uncertainty, but I can understand their thoughts too.
Annette – your night (Tuesday, I believe) sounds horrendous, with the dog being so unhelpful before you had to get up and see him and Daughter off on their journey! I hope you have caught up some sleep by now.
Linda – had to laugh at your OH’s footwear emergency, with him so sure he needn’t take many shoes compared with your - umm - excess! I suppose at that size he was lucky to find anything to fit. Plaesed to see you are both relaxing. I wonder whether the “How to raise your puppy” books are any better than the ones we had for babies, or are they equally contradictory?
Rita – I was surprised that you have space for new plants in your lovely garden! How are the knee and shoulder this week?
AQ – sounds like Miss 3 has inherited her Grandmother’s imagination and writing skills! Do you remember when we several of us ran that serial story about the Kakapo on a thread in the “Tea Room” on here? Pleased your trips are starting so soon, and you have several planned.
Lynette – I hope you had a good swim today.
Clare – no precipitation today, but that wind was so cold. I hope you were able to be outside and enjoy the better weather you are having now. I so agree with you about Brenda’s posts not needing flagging: she does always seem to find the right words to say, whereas I seem to jump in with both feet!
Starling – poor wee boy, I hope he will soon settle; it must all be very strange for him. But don’t give in for too long, he does need to learn.
Heather – sorry you are so full of worries again! My thought process was exactly the same as yours re Rita’s purchases: I reckon lunch at Simpsons and plants from Howden’s!
J is out this evening, so I shall now make unaccustomed use of the lounge! (But he does usually ask if we want to be in there!) He has gone to a new group from church, for 20s and 30s, which I am pleased about as he really does need a social life!
Ospreys Rule OK, but Goldfinches come a close second!
Swim went well and added another 2 lenghths to my game, now managing 20 lengths in 3 goes.

Lindy - glad the weather has improved and that you are enjoying yourselves. Oh for the good life, nice to be able to relax and switch off.
HeatherB - do hope that things work out with OH and Dau. Plus the fact that there has been bad news on other family members. Will be thinking about you and all those who may be going through tough times at present. Take care.

Evening all: Felt somewhat washed out all morning, but woke up this afternoon when we took car in to have front end aligned after new tires were installed. OH and I finally finished with legal stuff we've been working on for - ahem - way too long, so that's another thing off the To Do list. Was feeling reckless so stopped at the garden center downtown en route home and bought three Salvias: one Alan Chickering and two Mesa Azures. The former will be the second AC in the garden; it's a pure summer California-by-the-coast native sage with the most wonderfully heady perfume. The other two are dark mauve with less fragrance. And oh yes, saw an unusual lizard in the garden today. Or so I thought. Typically, the ones we see are a sort of mottled browny color; this one was almost black with a iridescent blue/green belly and throat. Thought I'd spotted something new, but after checking multiple online sites, discovered it was just a local run-of-the-mill Western Fence Lizard that hadn't warmed up yet. Fascinating. I ran to get the camera but he/she had scarpered before I could get a shot. In the meantime, I have three very fat caterpillars munching through the Milkweed, then I discovered two tiny new ones on a second plant. Hope there's enough to see them all to the chrysalis stage.
Lindybird: I really think a week is the minimal time that people need to start shedding the stress of so-called normal life. Your location sounds wonderful. Do you pick up your pup as soon as you get home? Glad you found your OH some good-enough sandals to see him through the holiday - what does he think of your collection? :-)
Starling: I'm clueless, but why do you have to wait 3 weeks to take Baxter out for a walk? How sweet of you to bed down nearby so he doesn't feel too lonely.
Heather: So sorry you had one of "those" nights. And the thing is, we worry about all this stuff and even though there's nothing we can do about it - still we fret! Is your OH sleeping well (or does he just worry during the day?) My cousin's OH had a similar problem to your Dau's FiL and is doing okay several years after surgery. Do folks in the UK have regular colonoscopies (5-10 years apart after a first one, typically at age 50?)
OG: Good luck with a new shed and accessories. Let us know how J's church group is going.
Lynette: Good that you're managing to boost your efforts in the pool. I didn't even go to yoga class last night I was so tired.... Thanks for the photos; I wonder if critters are as relieved as we are when kinder weather arrives.
