Weekly Chat (Non-Osprey Topics), 1 March 2015

HAPPY NEW WEEK AND HAPPY NEW MONTH!

Last week's Chat thread is HERE.

Thursday, March 5, is the Full Moon.

Also,

On March 6, NASA's Dawn spacecraft will arrive at the dwarf planet Ceres. Ceres is the largest object in the asteroid belt between Mars and Jupiter.

The Dawn space probe will spend several months observing Ceres and sending back the first close-up images of a dwarf planet in our solar system. You can watch the spacecraft's arrival at Ceres on a special broadcast of the Slooh Observatory:

U.K.: Friday 6 March at 6:00 p.m.
Eastern U.S.: 6 March at 1:00 p.m.
California: 6 March at 10:00 a.m.

Scientists have already detected mysterious bright spots on Ceres and are anxious to discover what they are. INFO

Everyone have a great week!

  • Weather is brilliant so far, but may not last long here - I think you will have it all day.  Trip out will include lunch!

Ospreys Rule OK, but Goldfinches come a close second!

Most unfair on the person who started that thread!

At least he'll know from my comment that the person who attacked him had no right to be there in the first place.

Our herring gulls are red listed birds.  Think about that the next time you hear some flaming idiot calling for a cull of them.

  • Good Morning Everyone. Another bright and frosty start. Everywhere looked so lovely earlier. Frost has now disappeared.

Clare, I usually notice the distinctive writing of the banned poster, but I did miss that post. Thanks for being so observant.

(I have just flagged myself for this post LOL)

  • LOL!!!  I can't ever imagine anyone needing to flag a post of yours.

  • Heather, I do hope your daughter was able to get that house. Rent can be as expensive as a mortgage, but as you say, the deposit, when buying, can be the stumbling block.

AQ, Miss 3 does sound as if she is ready for school now. It is lovely to hear a child tell a story, with all the action and drama.

Rita, I hope you have chance to plant your new purchases. Is the rain going to reach you today ?

Lynette, Thanks for the elephant capture.

OG, Enjoy your lunch. I agree with your posts above and feel so annoyed about the whole subject, that I must keep my thoughts to myself, at least until I calm down !!!
My recent eye check says that I don't need reading glasses !!!! Nor do I need "advice" on how I should vote.

  • Hello!! Sorry to say, to those of you in the chilly UK, that it is beautiful weather here. Wish I could send you some of it..... Sadly, politics and/or religious discussions do not a happy community make - well illustrated by the thread which has now closed. Apart from the fact that these are supposed to be conversations about birds & wildlife, although happily we are allowed to have a couple of places where we can discuss the weather, our worrying children, how many pairs of shoes you need on holiday, our ailments, the wildlife cams, whale watching, etc.etc!!
  • We have been laying in the sun with our books (wearing suncream and hats!) and not a care in the world. My OH has visibly relaxed: it took a whole week but he is now looking less careworn. On the literature for this apartment, the owner has written "The ideal antidote to the stress of modern life" - its very remote here, with no sounds save the wind in the palms and the waves rolling in. We sleep like babies!
  • LINDA - perhaps you could teach AQ's granddaughters how to sleep like babies!

Over all, trip not successful, as shed man had gone out to the dentist.  But lunch was excellent and we did make some garden centre purchases!  Back later with normal replies.

Ospreys Rule OK, but Goldfinches come a close second!

Starling - How are you getting on with your lovely little Baxter?  He looks so cute, I am sure he keeps you busy all day, hope he sleeps at night!

Hi Rita - I'm afraid he cried all night.  Last night I slept downstairs with him and will probably do that for a few more nights yet just so he knows someone is there.  Today was my first whole day with grandson and Baxter and I'm shattered LOL  I can't wait until I can take him out for a walk, but it will be 3 weeks yet :(

  • Hello all, thank you for news etc, have been looking in. I went to Elgin today as it is youngest daughter's birthday. Thirty five, my goodness how the time has flown. Loads of people on the train were glued to their smart phones and I joined in too, reading your news. Have to say that I have mixed feelings about that kind of thing.

I hope that ANNETTE had a better night last night after getting up to put the dog out and cooking breakfast at an unearthly time a couple of days ago. I think that we should just join LINDY in the Canaries, just reading about wind in the palm trees and waves lapping the shore made me envious!!

I have run out of steam - rotten night last night with worries about OH and youngest daughter's housing. Plus more bad news, eldest daughter's father in law had a tumour the 'size of a tennis ball' removed from his colon and pathology results are not good. His wife is in a dreadful state. She has been obsessive about him having a healthy diet for years and cannot believe what has happened.

STARLING- I hope that Baxter will settle down soon, no wonder you are shattered!

RITA- Ha ha, I wonder which garden centre you got the plants from and which you ate in----

LYNETTE,MARGO, OG,CLARE,WENDY,BRENDA and all- I'm up to date!

Just no brain left to make proper replies :-((
