Weekly Chat (Non-Osprey Topics), 1 March 2015

HAPPY NEW WEEK AND HAPPY NEW MONTH!

Last week's Chat thread is HERE.

Thursday, March 5, is the Full Moon.

Also,

On March 6, NASA's Dawn spacecraft will arrive at the dwarf planet Ceres. Ceres is the largest object in the asteroid belt between Mars and Jupiter.

The Dawn space probe will spend several months observing Ceres and sending back the first close-up images of a dwarf planet in our solar system. You can watch the spacecraft's arrival at Ceres on a special broadcast of the Slooh Observatory:

U.K.: Friday 6 March at 6:00 p.m.
Eastern U.S.: 6 March at 1:00 p.m.
California: 6 March at 10:00 a.m.

Scientists have already detected mysterious bright spots on Ceres and are anxious to discover what they are. INFO

Everyone have a great week!

  • OG, I did laugh at your escapade at the dentist. Your new dentist will never forget either of you now. I am sure they will change the locking device, design, when they come to replace the door. I wonder how they coped for the rest of the day, with a damaged door and no lock.
I am intrigued by your " Challenges" talk.  There are so many times in life when we feel challenged.

AQ, So pleased that you now feel 100% and coped so well with your nanny day. Glad that you were able to dine out with your OH and enjoy an evening together. A trip from Singapore to Australia sounds good.

Heather, Has your daughter found a new house yet ? It has to be worrying for her.

Annette, Daughter has bought the house in London, although they did know that the kitchen and bathrooms need modernising, they did not think that there was a problem with the heating, as they understood that the boiler was quite new. I do hope it is a small problem.

  • Linda, I wonder what the people at the airport thought when they saw bacon, on the X-ray, in your suitcase. Is it actually allowed ?

  • Tried to post a while ago, but it didn't work.

  • BRENDA    No prizes for guessing where you will be going for your hols. I visited Sing

  • Oops (finger trouble)   Singapore in 1980. My friend and I arrived in the early hours and decided not to bother with bed, but headed straight for Bougis street. My goodness, those men really were stunning!!

  • Should I ask about Bougis Street?

Our herring gulls are red listed birds.  Think about that the next time you hear some flaming idiot calling for a cull of them.

  • I have just Googled Bougis Street, Dibnlib. I hadn't heard of it, but my OH had !!! I see what you mean. LOL I want to hear more :-))

  • BRENDA I don't know if it is allowed or how LINDY packed her bacon but we always used to take dry cure bacon (and cheddar cheese )to Tenerife because the bacon there is dire, watery and very expensive. (Shut your eyes now, OG!) A real treat for us over there was bacon, eggs, fried bread and gorgeous really ripe plum tomatoes, fried slowly in olive oil until they were caramelized. We never have fried bread at home so it was a double treat! I don't like eggs much so always had a double helping of mushrooms sauteed in butter, not soggy but slightly caramelized.

We also always take Charles Macleod Stornoway black pudding with us when we fly to France. Once, the guy pulled my hand luggage aside at Inverness Airport. He extracted the 15 inch long pudding, laughed and wished us a good time! On the other end of the journey, no customs in Tenerife or France have investigated ----

  • I thought all meat "imports/exports" were subject to licensing since various human and animal health scares.  I know you can't take haggis or Christmas puddings to the US because they could be bombs!

Ospreys Rule OK, but Goldfinches come a close second!

  • BRENDA, daughter has viewed a house this morning but it is in the lap of the gods, too many people chasing too few rented houses. It is a pity that the owners of their current home are selling as daughter and SiL are only about nine months away from having a deposit to buy. OH and I have offered help but they are very independent minded. It's a long story, they owned before, but sold, after SiL had a bad road accident while commuting to Lossiemouth from Inverness and went into RAF housing in Moray. Lost their place on the housing ladder and both feel guilty that they didn't save regularly while they had a low RAF rent. The equity in their Inverness house is not enough for a deposit due to larger deposits being required now after the banking crash.
