WEEKLY CHAT (non-osprey) SUNDAY FEBRUARY 8, 2015

Hi everyone!

  • Heather, To feel apprehensive of any hospital must be quite normal, surely. My OH couldn't stand anybody even putting drops in his eyes and was anaesthetised for his first cataract operation, but insisted that he would stay awake for his second. Just as Dibnlib describes, the only thing he mentioned was the grittiness for a couple of days afterwards. He now has such faith in the surgeons that he only had a blocker for his corneal graft, which took nearly two hours. For all OH's operations they have always asked me to join my OH at the pre op tests and after treatment, as they are aware that the patient may not always absorb what they are saying and they expect the partner will be administering the eye drops. Best wishes to your OH. X

Linda, My son's dog still uses her cage. She puts herself to bed during the day and at night. They have a big one in the house and a smaller one for the car. When she came to stay with us for the first time, I couldn't believe how much ' luggage' came with her and then watched as the car cage was installed in our car, together with the veterinary bedding and soft bed, plus a cage cover to keep out any sunshine from the cage top and sides. I don't know what will happen when they have children LOL  I wasn't happy about the cage idea, at first, but when I see how she sees it as her personal domain, I have definitely changed my mind. She refuses to be without it, even now.

  • Good evening all.  Lmac, do you just volunteer at LG in the osprey season or do you help out through the winter as well?

Clare thinks they will be emptying the organic toilets this month.  Not nice.

  • Linda, Sorry you are feeling a bit 'off'. Hope a good night's sleep will be the answer.

OG, Good to hear that EE has now recovered and that you are all feeling brighter. Wheelchair curling sounds fun, but I guess, could be dangerous. J must be confident on the ice.

  • Hello all, and thanks Annette for starting us off.

Starling - what an adorable puppy.

Clair - pleased to see that Limpy is feeling a little better and now see that he has managed to post - well done Limpy hope you manage to get back to your volunteering soon.   Watched Country File last evening and they did a small part on Rutland Water and the managing of the reed beds there. It came from Leicestershire this week.

Enjoyed Sunday late afternoon as we had our quarterly Songs of Praise with coffee/tea and cake afterwards.   What a super selection of hymns we had, all the old ones, a great sing song. Oh and the cake was delicious too!!

Its been like a spring day here with sunshine all the way although more cloud is forecast for tomorrow. Off to the gym as usual in the morning - must keep up my little bit of exercise I do.

Lindy - hope you are feeling much better soon.

  • Evening all:  Picked out a Olive Tree for our back garden today. It's fruitless, but has lovely gray-green leaves and an open habit with branches that sway very gracefully in the breeze.  Must arrange to have it picked up, delivered and "installed" as it's in a 24" planter box and will need root guards, then will fill in around it with some other drought resistant shrubs.

Clare: Glad that Limpy's back problem is clearing up fairly quickly.  Did he survive the bathtub?

Limpy: Organic toilets? We have what they call Port-a-Potties here, which can be very iffy.

Starling: I like Ghillie and Rory for that sweet little pup!

Llndybird:  What a cutie!!!  She's gorgeous - and all that hair!  How is Tomasz doing?   I love pizza. They're coming out with all these "healthy" versions, but what's the point I say: I like them with lots of cheese and all kinds of toppings (but please, no pineapple or anchovies).  My granddaughter's cat and dog have both slept in their crates at night with no complaints. In fact they seem to like them.

dibnlib: I saw that story about the dog abandoned with his suitcase. Good to read he's got a new home - people were lining up to adopt him, from what I recall....  When I posted news and pix of that little terrier I found a couple of weeks ago, I got an e-mail from a lady saying he'd make a wonderful companion to her other terrier. I told her he was at the Animal Shelter and she went the next morning to apply to adopt him, but his real owner had already contacted them to pick him up.  Such as shame that many strays that don't make the news remain in shelters while everyone wants to adopt a dog that shows up on the evening news...

Wendyb: Had to Google EBT to figure out what it was.

Rita: One of our epiphyllums is ready to put out a marvelous bloom - much earlier than usual. It's all this pesky heat!

OG: Wasn't OH's breadmaker a gift a couple of years ago? I always wonder if those appliances (ice cream  makers, etc.) get used very often.

Friend is arriving tomorrow afternoon for a couple of nights, so might not post again until Thursday. In the meantime, take care everyone.

    Yes, he survived!  Phew.

Have a good time with your friend.

Our herring gulls are red listed birds.  Think about that the next time you hear some flaming idiot calling for a cull of them.

  • Morning, cold dull grey  morning here. Limpy I just volunteer in osprey season but due to other holidays and new puppy this year I can't do although happy to help on weekends when I am north over the season.

  • Limpy how is your back and Clare how did your other interview go

  • Good Morning, All. A bit grey & damp here again. I feel slightly "off" again today but better than I did yesterday, so am hoping it will pass. Must have eaten something. Need to tidy up as Friend and her new pup are coming for a visit.
  • Hope Limpy's back has improved, and I'm thinking of Margo today & hoping the chemo week is going ok.
