WEEKLY CHAT (non-osprey) SUNDAY JANUARY 11, 2015

Happy New Week all: OH and I are off to see The Imitation Game tonight, then will pick up dinner from our favorite Chinese restaurant on our way home.

Heather: You're not living a sheltered life, or if you are, we're all there with you (and happy to be so). Seems like bad language and a general lack of civility are endemic these days - it's so depressing. And to think the English language is so rich yet people have to use the "last resort" words first. :-(

Clare: My friend's daughter is a Downs Syndrome adult now and still needs supervision. It must be a huge worry, especially as parents age. Didn't know it could also mean heart problems as well.

Brenda: Hope the Quiz was fun.

Thanks all for posts! Take care.

  • Good morning, after another noisy night.  Some very heavy rain at breakfast, with accompanying gales, but calmer now and we should get some sunshine for a few hours.  Dentist for me late morning - replacement filling, or a big fight if she says it has to come out - not my fault there was nobody to fill it for two whole weeks!

AQ - I think you really should tell your Daughter how much pain you are suffering; those babies are now far more extra weight than you should be bearing on your replacement knee!

LINDA - three weeks holiday - wow!  Don't wear yourself out with the HW before you go!

BRENDA - my comment to LINDA reminds me of a question I have for you.  I have often heard people say they change their sheets before going away so they can sleep on clean ones when they return, and you said it before Christmas.  Can you enlighten me, where do you sleep that last night before leaving?

Ospreys Rule OK, but Goldfinches come a close second!

  • Yay!  They've sorted out the problem with posting images.

Our herring gulls are red listed birds.  Think about that the next time you hear some flaming idiot calling for a cull of them.

  • Awwwww!

  • Good morning all and thinking of OG, rita, dibnlib, Heather, Wendy and george as it seems you are still getting a battering of very strong winds, snow and ice as well. Do take care if going out, Wet and windy here but Wednesday and Thursday look pretty bad with winds of 75 miles an hour forecast And very heavy rain.

It was so good to see the unted front from France. Locally we had people standing with them showing solidarity with them. You hope that it will give out a message to these fanatics but at the same time I do worry this could happen just about anywhere. What a violent world we live in.

OH let me help a bit with the housework this weekend. I did the dusting and polishing and he hoovered and washed floors. So peased that I actually felt useful for a change. It meant that it was finished more quickly.  He is still very busy at work and spent the time gained by working from home for a couple of hours. Hopefully February will be a lot easier for him.

Heather shame about the neighbour and the bad language, you must find  it quite stressful. Hope your OH is feeling a bit better now. Was so pleased that you did receive a gift in appreciation of all you do for Sheana but it it is no more than you deserve and has been a long time in coming.

Brenda well done on coming third in the quiz and some consolation in winning wine in the raffle. Expect you are the same yellow warning as us later this week. Not looking forward to it at all and sad as you know there will be more trees down.

Annette hope you enjoyed the Chinese takeaway. Must admit to being a fan of Chinese food but we ration ourselves to one a month, usually after the chemo side effects have worn off. All food tastes a bit strange at this time. Good to hear you are still getting some rain but guessing you still need a lot more.

AQ your temperatures are a bit strange, cool one day and then a return to something a lot warmer. Must be very wearing on top of your baby sitting duties which are making you feel very achy. Sounds as though you really do need some "me" time.

diane been looking at the weather and it appears it is very, very cold with a lot of snow. Hope you are keeping warm and have plenty of provisions in,

rita love your description of a whippet obviously based on lovely Amber. The birds down here seem more hungry now but with it being so cold up there your garden must be a real haven, I have starlings visit who are like hoovers  with the food but it amuses me that they do not get up as eearly as the sparrows, bluetits, blackbirds etc so miss out on the worms we put out each morning.

Linda so pleased you are thinking of having another dog. I sense it has been a very stressful year for you both and I am sure it will be good for your OH and you. I know how much Billie has helped me through the down times and it goes without saying that OH has helped me as well. Hope you are both able to relax while you are away, as usual you will be missed.

Lynette hope you are getting to grips with your tablet. I have an iPad and never use the laptop now. Much easier to sit comfortably and use the Internet. Hope yourvOH is recovering from his cold.

OG hope you enjoyed the final episode of Miranda. It will be interesting to see what she does next, I belive there are some rumours about a game show but not sure this woukd be the right direction for her. Must have been a relief for your daughter to get power  back, hope that is still the case as I believe there are still some who are still without. Also good to know that her other house is not damaged.

Off to  have an early lunch as chemo starts again today, cannot believe how quickly time has passed as it was a 5 week break this time but now reverts to every 4 weeks again.

Take care all and have a good day.

  • Margo - Hope the chemo goes ok. I nearly said something yesterday, but had lost count & wasn't sure if it was this week. Good that you felt up to helping with the housework. I keep attacking mine but get so bored with it, I find excuses to stop & look out of the window or else read something. I'm not a natural homemaker, but then I panic if we have visitors & its not tidy!! OG - in answer to your question, I too like to come home to clean sheets, but if its an early start that day well, we have slept in them, just once!! We are off on our usual break from the winter: years ago we promised ourselves that if we could run to it, we would have a long break away in winter. We've been going to the same place for over 15 years now & have made many friends amongst others who do the same. If I won the lottery I would probably leave the day after Boxing Day for 2 or 3 months! - but I would not ever want to live anywhere other than UK.
  • Just a quick post before OH comes in and I help put shopping away!  Dentist visit was "good" - no injection, minimal drilling, but repair not guaranteed!  Rural drive there (12 miles) was lovely in respect of weather (sunshine, Buzzards etc) but no so good re traffic - one lorry failed to stop at crossroads where we had right of way, and we were slowed to 15 mph by a trailer-load of hay! There was a lot of surface water on the road, our river is full and Castle Loch is flooded, all being added to by rain on our way back, but sunny again now!

Ospreys Rule OK, but Goldfinches come a close second!

  • OG - We usually leave here on an early flight which means leaving the house at about 0545. My OH has given up on me because I have been known to change bedding at 0500 and if I think it is necessary (!!) will vacuum the hall carpet.I usually get shouted at, for doing that. Even if it has been done the very day before. I should point out that said hall and stair carpet is what they call 'Turkey pattern, red'(not my choice, but is very cheery in the winter months) It requires cleaning every day, shows bits +++

  • Woodmice - latest:

Christmas time - 2 trapped; last week - 1 each Mon, Tue, Wed, Thur and 2 together on Saturday; this week: 1 today.  They moved into the garage when we were away for New Year!
