WEEKLY CHAT (non-osprey) SUNDAY JANUARY 11, 2015

Happy New Week all: OH and I are off to see The Imitation Game tonight, then will pick up dinner from our favorite Chinese restaurant on our way home.

Heather: You're not living a sheltered life, or if you are, we're all there with you (and happy to be so). Seems like bad language and a general lack of civility are endemic these days - it's so depressing. And to think the English language is so rich yet people have to use the "last resort" words first. :-(

Clare: My friend's daughter is a Downs Syndrome adult now and still needs supervision. It must be a huge worry, especially as parents age. Didn't know it could also mean heart problems as well.

Brenda: Hope the Quiz was fun.

Thanks all for posts! Take care.

  • Rita, don't worry. It's a website-wide issue. It may reflect a major change in forum policy by the RSPB. No information has been provided yet, but it's not something you are doing wrong or a failure of your system. I just wanted to reassure you.

  • Annette, No, there is no prize for coming third in the quiz, although I did win a bottle of wine in the draw.

OG, Good to see your daughter has power and her own house has no damage, although I see there is a another storm warning for tonight.
We have a rain warning which starts tomorrow, into Tuesday with gales and then a storm warning for Wednesday into Thursday. Looks as if we are into another good weather week :-((

Rita,I had read about the problems when posting photographs, but I thought that RSPB would have said something, if they have changed the system permanently.

Linda, Are you going to get a pup from the same litter as your friend ?

  • Thanks Diane, for your advice.  I do hope RSPB will say something soon.

  • Lindybird -  I recommend one of these -   Gentle and loving but lively and cheeky,  good with children and other dogs,   Greedy!!  Never sheds hair,  runs like the wind and lies flat out on the sofa the rest of the time !!!  which breed?       'A WHIPPET of course!!!'

  • Thanks, Rita!!! I love whippets and greyhounds, but my OH has other ideas. Brenda - Not our choice, either, although I'm sure they're great little dogs. My Friend took delivery today, and her new baby girl is asleep on her lap as I write. We are going to visit tomorrow, to get acquainted. (She's a Miniature Schnauzer, if I didn't say). We have told absolutely no one of our plans, not even our children. We can't rush out to get a puppy, anyway, as we are off shortly on our annual jaunt so it would be cruel to take a dog in and then farm it out to someone for 3 weeks. We will just have to keep our eyes open for what we have in mind. {finger to side of nose, with a knowing look!} My OH has not been himself for a while, and I knew it would give him something to look forward to. It will restrict our lives in some ways, but give us a lot of pleasure, in others. We were going to wait to have another for about 7 years, till we stopped travelling so much, but hey ho!!!
  • Sorry that came out in one big, hard to read block! This darned tablet doesn't put in my paragraphs!!!
  • The jumper didn't last long. Yesterday turned warm & humid. Today it's 29 C with 87% humidity and I'm drooping again. Dau phoned, obviously checking that I am coming tomorrow. Yes <sigh>. I didn't tell her my knee & shoulders haven't recovered from trying to soothe 21 lb L & 17 lb J last week. I could have gone home an hour earlier, we were expecting one or both to wake & scream but they slumbered on - I always stay until her OH gets home from work. I shall have to concentrate - I looked at my stove the other day and wondered why it needed cleaning when I had just done so, then I realised I had cleaned Dau's not mine.

  • AQ: Oh dear, do hate to think of you worn out. I'm sure you've all looked at various other options.  Do take care.

Was really please to see that Joanne Frogett (Anna in Downton Abbey), won best supporting actress for her fourth season role.  Hope Benedict C will get something for The Imitation Game, though I've heard that Eddie Redmayne was excellent as Stephen Hawking.

    Have a good Monday everyone.

  • Annette - I see Eddie Redmayne won. I'm sure it was a close contest. Just seen a report on the awards, and George Clooney made tribute to the French victims recently, very moving.
  • Good Morning, All. Lots on the news this morning on the dramatic gatherings in Paris, so many people standing together in unity. Ordinary people seem determined to have a voice, which is wonderful. Grey skies here and rain predicted later. My OH has gone out with a friend for a friendly golf practice, so I'm going to attack the housework, I seem to get more done when he's not here! AQ - please pace yourself a bit, you'll be no help if you wear yourself out. {hugs}
