WEEKLY CHAT (non-osprey) SUNDAY JANUARY 11, 2015

Happy New Week all: OH and I are off to see The Imitation Game tonight, then will pick up dinner from our favorite Chinese restaurant on our way home.

Heather: You're not living a sheltered life, or if you are, we're all there with you (and happy to be so). Seems like bad language and a general lack of civility are endemic these days - it's so depressing. And to think the English language is so rich yet people have to use the "last resort" words first. :-(

Clare: My friend's daughter is a Downs Syndrome adult now and still needs supervision. It must be a huge worry, especially as parents age. Didn't know it could also mean heart problems as well.

Brenda: Hope the Quiz was fun.

Thanks all for posts! Take care.

  • No snow here - lots of (small) hail at lunchtime, which didn't all melt away.  Had to go to local town to renew Blue Badge - quite cold out.  I think we are protected by our low altitude from the nasty stuff higher up, as it is all around us.  Saw on FB that Terry reported snow her side of the Solway today.

Mouse #9 taken to the woods today!  Still can't find nest - beginning to suspect they may be coming from neighbours' garage into ours!

Ospreys Rule OK, but Goldfinches come a close second!

  • Goodness, OG! In that case, you may never get to the end of them!!! Have been tidying again - how come there are lots of bits of newspaper cuttings underneath the magazine pile? Oh, yes, it was me!!
  • Post Christmas Notes to Self - 1). Don't buy too many nuts in shells, as there are too many other things during the Festive Season to nibble on, and the supermarkets sell them all off at half price in January, so might as well buy them then! 2) Next Christmas, defrost the 3 pieces of parsnip due to be cooked just for me (OH hates them) and you won't have to panic when the roast potatoes go into the oven! 3) Remember to buy more of the pretend Jaffa Cakes which M&S sell, labelled "Cranberry & Chocolate" - Wow!Gorgeous! 4) Remember not to buy theM&S biscuits labelled " Christmas Pudding Flavour" - definitely very strange!! 5) Remember that if your guests don't eat enough of the shortbread biscuits, you'll still be eating them yourself on the 12th January!!
  • Hi all, been a mixed day here.  Went into a local supermarket to get what I hoped was there but out of luck - oh well, that's the name of the game. Ended up getting other things instead.

Annette and Clare - OH wants to go into rural Norfolk or maybe Suffolk and then we can branch out and visit the coast or countryside from there.  He's not keen on staying on the coast.

Just did a few lengths today. Felt a bit tired. One thing I did this afternoon was to fall flat on my face after tripping up on one of the throws - trouble was I landed on my replacement knee and it was painful.  Also got a big bruise on my forehead - still,. I'm still in one piece - just a bit of a headache. Very clumsy of me as I was also wearing loose slippers as they are warmer but have now changed to tighter fitting ones.  That'll teach me.

Weather here has been mixed but not sure what tomorrow will bring as  the forecast said that another storm front is moving in.   We do seem to get the tail end of these storms where we are with the weather not too bad , yet!!!  Take care all, stay safe and warm.

  • Lynette - Ouch! You could have knocked yourself out, there. Take care. Hope the bruises fade quickly but expect your knee will ache for a while. I've never been to Suffolk or Norfolk but its on the list To Do One Time.
  • LYNETTE: A rural cottage would give more options than being out on the ooast, especially if the weather isn't cooperative.

OG: Well, if you're going to be filling the neighborhood with aroma of baked yummies, you must expect to attract all kinds of critters!  :-)

Oh, do take care! I must confess to feeling a little creaky post-Christmas, but still managed to get out and prune most of the roses today.

    Have a good Wednesday everyone.

  • A scattering of snow outside today, and the birds are already lined up waiting for me in the hedge by the feeders. Hope everyone with 'real' snow keeps safe today. I'm off to the hairdressers, can't wait to get my locks cut as they've become unruly again. After I've done a couple of errands, I shall come home & sit by the central heating! Have a good day, All.
  • Wendy - I saw the swimming pigs, too! Lots of fun! But the programme is rather childishly presented, we feel. Also watched the Horizon programme on dieting, very interesting ideas on there.
  • Just a light dusting of snow here, with zero temps so far, but expecting sunshine during today, then heavy rain this evening.  Didn't go to garden club last evening, and shall probably not go to bird club this evening; I think our National Trust group had the right idea, having no meeting in January!

LYNETTE - sorry about the fall; I hope the knee is only shaken and not damaged.  Do take care; we have a house rule not to have anything to be tripped over - no pets, no rugs, nothing left lying around.

No definite plans for today, but I'm sure we shall find things to do, if only a bit more "flinging out".

Ospreys Rule OK, but Goldfinches come a close second!

  • Good Morning ALL. No snow here but we did have more rain overnight. Sorry for those with the snow and ice, which could also cause flooding tonight when the latest storm arrives. I noticed that there are schools closed in Scotland this morning.

Lynette, I would think that you are feeling very sore this morning. I do hope you haven't damaged your knee.

Annette, Sorry you are still feeling creaky. I have spoken to so many people recently, who say that they don't seem to have their usual energy level. Numbers at the indoor bowls, have been greatly reduced for the last two weeks. Take care.

It seems to be a hairdressing week. Myself on Monday, Heather on Tuesday, Linda - today. Who is tomorrow ?

I need to food shop this morning and find those items I couldn't buy on Monday.
