Happy new week and happy solstice!

Last week's Chat Thread is here.

For most of us, today is the Winter Solstice. Welcome back to the Sun! With the return of the light, I'd like to wish all of my dear friends on this thread a happy holiday season and a new year blessed with joy, abundance, good health, serenity, and love!

The solstice occurs on 21 December at:

2303 GMT
11:03 p.m. in the U.K.
6:03 p.m. in the eastern U.S.
3:03 p.m. in California

And for AQ: Happy Summer Solstice on 22 December at 9:33 a.m.

This solstice is special because it happens within 2 and a half hours of the New Moon. I'm seeing this cosmic event as a fresh start and a new beginning. Woo hoo!

  • ♫ ♪ Happy birthday, dear Margo! Happy birthday to you! ♪ ♫

  • Happy birthday MARGO xx Wish I had posted this earlier :-(

  • In bed after a busy day! All went well with the meal, a bit crazy at times because a few of my grandchildren are as hyper as I am but nevertheless a lovely time had by all. My son decided to drive up from Shropshire today because of the weather forecast. I'm so glad that they did, can't tell how relieved I was to see their car roll into the drive!! Quite cold here tonight, minus something or other so have left the heating on lowish. Just to kick in if necessary.

  • Happy Birthday to you Margo, even though this is a bit late.  I do hope that you had a lovely day.

  • Evening all:  Thanks everyone for greetings, cards, photos over the last two or three days. So many of you seem to have had a nice quiet Christmas. I really must try that sometime. :-)

Margobird: A very belated Happy Birthday to you.  Lovely to hear of your special Christmas Day with OH; it must've been the best gift ever.  :-)

AQ: Sounds like a satisfying day all round; very sweet of you to "hide" the pots and pans from SiL.  Just realized that twins will likely inherit all Miss3's pretty clothes and toys!

Lindybird: We tried to Skype sister and family in the UK but couldn't get through.  Did manage to chat on the phone and niece had the same nasty cold as your OH.

George:  Hope Diesel is over his disappointment about the leftovers and is speaking to you again. :-)

Picked up my car from my daughter's today; was met at the train station by g/daughter, her partner, and Ms. D.  Here are some shots I took from the train and a certain little sweetie.

Sorry about the reflection in this one... notice the difference in the surf in this south-facing beach compared to one following, which shows much larger surf on a west-facing beach.

Jalama Beach, pronounced Halama - long ahs - with the emphasis on the the second syllable; popular with campers and surfers.

Ms. D  playing "tag" with some very big surf.

    Ms. Rosy Cheeks!

Daugher et al off to Arizona with two horses in tow at the crack of dawn tomorrow.  Ms. D got a new bridle and reins plus brushes, etc. for her new four-legged friend.  I'll be very relieved to get the "we're here!" call tomorrow night.

    Take care everyone!

  • Good Morning. Snowed here last night, and eventually started to settle - in an hour our street was white over and like a Christmas card. Its still on the ground this morning, having frozen over in the night. Hope you are all safe & warm in the UK. Annette, lovely pics, thanks for posting - MissD has grown amazingly!
  • Good morning, all.  No snow here but plenty of rain instead - yugh.  Glad I don't have to go far today.

Margo, a very happy birthday for yesterday!  My sincere apologies for not remembering.

Our herring gulls are red listed birds.  Think about that the next time you hear some flaming idiot calling for a cull of them.

  • No snow here, but quite cold, with lots of sunshine.

Have a good weekend, especially those visiting or with visitors expected - safe travel too!

Ospreys Rule OK, but Goldfinches come a close second!

  • Just read through your posts from pg.5.   Thanks to those who posted christmas cards and especially the ones of our ospreys.

Margo, so pleased you managed more prep this year and seem to be doing great. Hope OH does have a rest as he doesn't want to burn out.

Lovely pics of your grandchildren AQ,

    Rita what a lovely card.

I wish everyone a PEACEFUL NEW YEAR and may it bring many blessings to you all.
