Weekly Chat (Non-Osprey Topics), 19 October 2014

Welcome to the new week! I hope everyone has a great one!
  • Good morning, everyone!  It's a beautiful morning here and I've been in a particularly domesticated mood and put a load of washing out.  Two of our cockatiels tried to celebrate the beautiful start to the day with a quick mating session but our teenager wasn't having any of that so she stopped them!!

Our herring gulls are red listed birds.  Think about that the next time you hear some flaming idiot calling for a cull of them.

  • Good Morning, Everyone. No sun here (yet!) but its dry. Might wash some of our summery clothes so that we can put them away :-( Laughed about the cockatiels, Clare!!
  • Sorry to hear just now that Lynda Bellingham has died. She wanted a last Christmas with her family so it does seem a shame. Lovely woman.

  • Oh, no - I'm so sorry to hear that, Lindy.  My thoughts are with her family at this sad time.

  • Good morning all and very sad to discover that Lynda Bellingham has passed away. One very brave lady who just wanted to spend Christmas with her family. They spoke to Christopher Timothy on Breakfast and he was very upset and I suspect there will be many who will miss her so much.

As I said yesterday the ballet was just magical, so pleased that I managed to go. Very tired when we got home and yesterday was a day of naps, all well worth it though. Our next show in early December is Joe Brown and hoping I will get to this as well. Billy does not like it when we go out, she sits on the bedroom windowsill waiting for our return and we then have a huge "meet and greet session"  Have to make a big fuss of her and she watches us to make sure we don't leave her again.

Bright start to the day but already clouding over. Seems it is going to be rather unpleasant overnight into tomorrow. Looks as though the North will be getting the strongest winds so hope there will not be a lot of damage.

OG think I read that your daughter's roof repair had failed so I hope that no further damage will occur. Pleased your small op was successful.

diane always good to see a post from you. Thanks for your kind thoughts and for the links.

Clare we see quite a few kestrels. They can often be seen patrolling the the cliff top in Bournemouth so there must be a lot of mice etc. lol what a spoilsport your daughter is.

Lindybird sparrow hawks are stunning birds, we have a female who is a regular visitor. Can always tell when she is around as the sparrows bury themselves in a tree at the top of our garden.

Heather I guess all is back to normal after your visitors bit I know you do enjoy having them to stay.

george hope you managed a walk in the dry. What a shock that family must have had to receive that call.

Brenda what a terrible journey for your daughter. Jet lag must have been awful.

dibnlib what a shock to meet up with that lady and discover her husband had passed away.

rita hope you contine to recover are not trying to do too much. Lemon and lime marmalade sounds good especially as your lemons are home grown.

OG hope are feeling much stronger, I will be thinking of your daughter in the very strong winds that are fore cast and hope no further damage to the house will occur.

have a good day all and take care. Billie and I are going outside for a while.

  • Good Morning. A sunny morning here.

Clare, Poor cockatiels. Although, I must admit that I do go out and chase the wood pigeons, when I get fed up with them trying to mate most of the day !!

Linda, I was also sorry to hear about Lynda Bellingham. I admired her attitude to her illness.

Our new garden door was delivered last week and we expect the man to arrive later this morning to fit it. It will probably take longer than I think, as he has to fit new posts first.

  • Brenda - hope the man arrives, and gets the job done. We despair of workmen these days - we asked a builder for a quote to put us a low brick wall in at the front of the house, and that was a fortnight ago!! We can't decide whether to just have a low hedge, or a combination of a hedge & wall, which most of our neighbours have. It would help if we knew the cost of a wall!!
  • We thought that about the pigeon and a possible chase by the Sparrowhawks, Brenda, as the SH has been very evident lately. Today we were entertained during our coffee break as whilst watching a Nuthatch popping in & out of the hedge to the feeders, we also had a visit in a tree, from a Jay!! He didn't come down to the bird table, but hung around to see what was on offer.
  • Margo - so good that you enjoyed the ballet - Coppelia has such beautiful costumes. Billie certainly has you both on a string! We keep getting visits from a very fluffy cat, grey with neat white feet - he/she takes a drink from our low bird bath then prowls around the garden, but is very timid if we open the door!
  • This needs to be very quick – lots to do, after filling the weekend with something – wish I knew what!

Sorry to hear about various people’s losses and bad news in among the good. Really pleased Margo made it to the ballet and enjoyed it, and is now looking forward to Joe Brown.

Dibnlib – thanks for warning about the Dairy; I’m afraid I don’t like the colour of the ice cream there, looks so artificial (same with the similar bright colours at The Tower near Bankend).

Linda - were sorry when we heard this morning about Lynda Bellingham – just shows we can’t choose exactly when to go.

Margo – Daughter’s house was still under a temporary roof, so further water ingress was considerable – I am hoping they will have strengthened it before the next ex-hurricane crosses Scotland tonight. Meanwhile, she is doing her best to make a home where she is temporarily housed. We are planning to see her for her birthday at Hogmanay. Thank you for thinking of her.

I am up to normal strength now – and our Pastor told me last evening that I look better than a week ago! Just got a tender shoulder from flu jab and an itchy back around the stitches!

J has driven over to York to collect his pedal this afternoon. OH is preparing the car for a trip to the Metro Centre tomorrow; all three of us are spending the night there and then meeting Daughter#1 and SiL (he just finished a contract in London so is “resting” for a few weeks) for lunch on Wednesday. Their elder Daughter (GD#1) moved into a house in London last week, sharing with three other students – don’t know if they are all post-grad, or a mixture.

Now going to make Bubble-and-Squeak for lunch – OH’s choice!

Ospreys Rule OK, but Goldfinches come a close second!
