Weekly Chat (Non-Osprey Topics), 19 October 2014

Welcome to the new week! I hope everyone has a great one!
  • Margo: As always, my thoughts are with you this week. I hope you loved the ballet.

I've enjoyed all of the recent holiday photos; thanks to AQ, Lindy, Lynette and all.

Lindy: Best wishes to you and your family for the upcoming birth.

Heather: I hope you're enjoying your visiting family. Don't try to do too much.

George: My condolences on your recent losses.

I hope everyone who has been poorly is improving -- AQ, Lindy, Lindy's OH, Rita, OG, and all.

Lynette: Good luck with the leak. :-(

Brenda: Hello to you, and I hope all is well with you and your family.

Hi to Clare, Limpy, Liz, Chrisy, and everyone.

  • Welcome home, ANNETTE. I hope you had a wonderful trip and enjoyed the time with your sister.

For ANNETTE and anyone who might be interested: Comet "Siding Spring" will very narrowly miss striking Mars today (Sunday). The mountain-sized comet will skim Mars at only 87,000 miles (140,000 kilometers) away -- 1/3 of the distance between Earth and the Moon.

The Mars pass occurs at 7:28 p.m. in the U.K., 2:28 p.m. in the eastern U.S., and 11:28 a.m. in California

The Slooh Observatory is hosting a live online broadcast of the event. http://live.slooh.com/

  • Hi Everyone! A lovely bright morning, here. Thanks to DIANE for starting us off again, and for the above posts. We've just had a mention and illustration of the path of the Comet, on our TV News - looks exciting!
  • Thanks for news of Margo - I do hope she made it to the ballet. We have had several visits in the garden from a Sparrowhawk. He/she sits in one of our trees, or in our old neighbours tree (when the workmen are not there!). Yesterday she? caught a small brown bird who was not quick enough :-( We also had a large imprint on our kitchen window of a large white bird - pigeon?? including several small white breast feathers stuck on the glass.
  • Good morning all just a quick post to say went to the ballet and as always enjoyed it so much.

George sorry you are going through such a sad time, thinking of you.

Will post again tomorrow as I always try to devote the day to my wonderful OH who is at the moment doing the housework.

    Margo x

  • Margo, I'm so pleased you made it to the ballet!  Delighted you enjoyed it and I hope you're not feeling too bad today.

Our herring gulls are red listed birds.  Think about that the next time you hear some flaming idiot calling for a cull of them.

  • I should wish everyone a good morning!!  It was a really wet start here but the rain stopped and it is now a beautiful, sunny day.  I was putting some washing out when I noticed two birds flying together - my first thought was that they were magpies but as they came closer I saw that the colour of the birds was reddish and their wings had a very distinctive shape which meant they weren't magpies or even corvids - they were kestrels!  I'm chuffed to bits - I've never seen two of them flying together before!

  • CLARE  must be countrywide when we got uo it was chucking it down and it is now very pleasant. Benson has had a nice walk in the woods and we will take him to Daviot when we go for lunch and walk him there afterwards.

We had a coffee and a browse at the new extended food dept at Simpsons and bumped into  someone whose Goldie was related to Dillon. We knew their Goldie had died well before Dillon but got a shock to find that she was now on her own as her husband ( the main walker ) had died suddenly a year ago

  • That's sad, dibnlib. Always a shock to hear, when you didn't know. Clare, how wonderful to see the birds like that!!! You must be thrilled! We've been for a walk, and the trees look glorious everywhere - I didn't take the camera and regretted it, but my OH gets grumpy if I keep stopping. Off to get a salad lunch now, and then sit & read for a while, I never seem to get down the pile of reading matter even though we only buy a couple of newspapers a week & I only buy one magazine a month!
  • PS -- How lucky are we - its just started raining here now!!!
