Happy new week

  • Hi Margo!! Great to hear from you, and to hear such positive news. That's wonderful. I shall come back on here later with some more pics. OG - Good to hear that you are taking it easy today. I'm not going out, myself as although I had a good nights sleep I feel a little tired.
  • This from Valerie on one of the Facebook groups:

"I cant believe it just got a letter from LG and Richard Thaxton is retiring , he has been working for RSPB 32 years . I cant say how special Richard is , this year he was so kind to Alison and I , cant tell everyone exactly how and why but let me tell you he made me cry haha and smile !!! Julie will understand . He is Mr Loch Garten and I wonder who will take over . Jen Is returning for another year which is great news . I do hope a lot of you have been to LG and have met him . So with many happy memories and much thanks to Richard - he wont be reading this as he does not DO facebook twitter or the like so you can tell us your thoughts ; good luck to Richard from all of us ."

Ospreys Rule OK, but Goldfinches come a close second!

  • OG thanks for posting news about Richard Thaxton, what a surprise. I did get to meet him and yes he is definitely Mr Loch Garton. I am sure he will be sadly missed.

  • Gosh! That is some news I haven't met him but what I have read he will be missed  and he will miss LG. I had a lovely letter from him when I sent a donation

  • Lost a post. Fed up.

I will try and repeat it

Thank you all for your posts. I haven't yet looked at AQs pics but enjoyed Cornwall, Lynette. I wonder why OG and Cornwall don't get on -- As a Westcountry Maid I think it is beautiful!!

    Good news from Margo xx

I hope that LINDY and OG feel better soon!

  • HEATHER - I think I must've been to the wrong parts of Cornwall and at the wrong time, until our last visit (Eden Project) I always found it dirty - but that was always school holidays (when our children were young) and popular places - so blame it on my fellow "Grockles"!

Not been too bad today - I even baked a "mock malt loaf".

Ospreys Rule OK, but Goldfinches come a close second!

  • Perhaps things have improved OG!

Our holiday rental in Mevagissey was right beside the harbour and we watched with interest each day as all waste bins etc were emptied and rubbish taken away. That went on all day. I can honestly say that none of the many places we went to were dirty but as we passed through Okehampton in Devon I did get the feeling that it was run down and not a very prosperous town, if you know what I mean. Not as I remember it when I lived in Tavistock in the early 70s.

I'm glad you are picking up a bit and doing some baking. OH and I had a rotten sleepless night last night so we are both a bit under par. Don't know what the problem was. Anyway OH still put in a couple of hours in his garden this afternoon. Just the Autumn tidying etc.

  • Good that you felt "not too bad" today, OG. Hope it continues. We've had a funny, bitty day starting with my OH checking for the MOT on one of the cars, and finding it had run out 2 weeks ago!!! We were horrified as we've been driving around in it blissfully unaware..... He went straight off to a garage & waited while they did it - phew!! Then he spent ages on the phone about some insurance matters.
  • Hi Heather! Sorry you are both under par. Sometimes my OH seems restless and gets annoyed that he can't just sleep right through all night any more, but I think its an age thing. I feel lots better now: am laughing at Mary Berry telling Paul Hollywood off, and looking forward to a relaxing evening. EDIT - I get sooo annoyed when I lose a post!!! Hope it doesn't happen again for you, Heather.
  • Hello All,  Mixed weather today, very hot and sunny in the morning , so I sanded down the tortoise shed and put a coat of preservative on, then it turned dull and eventually rained so I only hope the preservative was dry by then!

this afternoon I have been feeling increasingly awful with sore throat and chest congestion, I think I am going down with something  unless it is a reaction to the flu' injection I had.

Margo - What a lovely long post from you, I am so glad your test results were good, it must make you feel happier.

OG We had many holidays in Cornwall when the children were young but I do not remember thinking it was dirty, we always stayed in very quiet places though.

Sorry to hear that Richard Thaxton is retiring, he will be missed.

I'll have to go now, do not think I can manage any more at the moment, I shall just watch 'Gardeners World' and then bed for me !   Hope anyone feeling ' under the weather' will have a good night, funnily enough I did not sleep at all well last night either, Heather.
