WEEKLY CHAT (non-osprey) SUNDAY, SEPTEMBER (gasp!) 6, 2014

How can it be September; it was only just July......

  • Evening all:

First off: AQ posted more pix of her trips late Saturday, so do take a look.

Nice morning with daughter yesterday, then home to all kinds of chores before we took a friend out to dinner while his wife is off babysitting grandkiddies for a couple of weeks.

AQ: Oh now that's a nice pic of the church in Auburn (is that lilac on the right?), and that abandoned building in Mintaro could be straight of the California Gold Country.  Any clue about the plants in the front garden?  I saw Picnic at Hanging Rock - a good movie - and thought it was based on fact for quite a while, but apparently not; kinda spooky regardless.   Oz's immigration story sounds so similar to the U.S.'s   Very selfish of me but it is nice to have you back in "AQ" mode.  :-)   Assume no news is good news with daughter and nanny?

Lindybird: We have lots of Ikeas here, but they're all in the wrong place!  :-)  They used to have an advertisement that was very apt for the U.S.: "It's a big country; somebody's got to furnish it."

Clare: Cute little customers at the LG cam.

Lynette: Went to a yoga class Wednesday morning and heard that our regular afternoon. instructor is still back east helping her parents sell their house - it's been four months now. We had a great sub for three months but she burned out what with her own classes and schedule and I'm not a fan of her sub so am working with the weights/aerobic gear and waiting to see what happens...

Alan: Will be interesting to see if that happens (stealth culling?)  Thanks for the update on Millie.

OG:  Great that your daughter is finally getting a decent roof over her head (in more ways than one).  Will the divorce settlement control the sale (or not) of the house; and will she get to move back in in 6 months if it has to go on the market?  Still, in 6 months it'll be spring and at least that's a good time to list houses I'd think.

Brenda: Container/truck transport a bit deal here, as well as railroad transport. The latter has run into a lot of scrutiny lately what with cargoes of crude oil that have been crashing and exploding.

Lots of grinding and associated noises from the recently sold house a block away today, but no work allowed on Sundays - I bet the neighbor behind us is going ballistic. She complains about everything and it's right across the street from her....

    Have a good Sunday all.

  • Happy Fathers Day

ANNETTE- The blossom beside the Auburn church window is prunus . I'll check the garden flowers pic when I have time. Off to have lunch with Dau2 for Fathers Day.

  • LINDA - thanks for replies on previous thread - have a wonderful visit on Monday to the wee one and her tired parents!

ANNETTE - thanks for starting our new week - with our current summery weather (always comes when the English schools go back), I keep forgetting it is now September and that "Season of mists and mellow fruitfulness"!  I hope you will get your regular yoga trainer back soon, I am sure that is more the kind of exercise to benefit you.  Yup, it will be the divorce settlement which decides future of the house, and a decision from mortgage company whether she can take the whole thing on board; her solicitor says this can all be processed during the rebuild/repairs.

AQ - Happy Fathers' Day to your OH and all the men of Oz; I guess it is a day to remember the Founding Fathers of Australia too.  Have a lovely visit to your Daughter#2; pleased she is well enough to host the celebration, though I am sure you and Daughter#1 are contributing your usual delicious puds!

Ospreys Rule OK, but Goldfinches come a close second!

  • Good morning, all!  It's a lovely morning here and set to be fair for the week ahead - yup, our local schools go back tomorrow!  Something I always used to curse about when I was much younger.  Helen's high school went back on Thursday and I think she was pretty happy about it - it's wonderful when you not only succeed in getting your child a place at a really good out-of-catchment school but they go on to enjoy the place.  Phew.

Our herring gulls are red listed birds.  Think about that the next time you hear some flaming idiot calling for a cull of them.

  • Good Morning, All & thanks to Annette for starting us off again. I can't think where the summers gone, either.....mind you, its a beautiful morning here with bright sunshine & we are off shortly to poke around a large annual car boot sale. Clare - pleased to read that Helen is enjoying her school which will contribute enormously I'm sure to how well she does, eventually.
  • Morning, Lindy - I love car boot sales so I know you'll have a nice morning.

  • The empty house next door to us had a lull in activity for a while, but is now busy again as they knocked down a small extension at the rear just before we went to Wales, and they have now dug the footings and started building a huge new extension right across the back of the house, which will make a much bigger kitchen & dining area, plus there will be an "orangery" which is a kind of a cross between a normal extension and a conservatory, with big windows onto the garden. The house also shares our view across the rolling fields so it should be very nice.
  • Sorry can't take you with me, then Clare!! We usually buy books & CD s which we don't have room for......
  • Blimey, Lindy - we even have shared tastes.  I love books and I can never have enough.  It drives Limpy mad.

Sounds like the house next door to you is going to be a lovely place to live when the work is finished.  I'd love to extend our house but the cost would be too much.  At least we're in a nice location.

  • My OH despairs, Clare! There are all kinds of books in every room in the house, plus huge CD collection in our bedroom - can't even count them all ( my musical tastes are very eclectic - there are operas, Katie Melua, Paul Simon, Country & Western, James Taylor, David Grey, Bryan Ferry, Vangelis, Scott Joplin, Mark Knopfler & Alfie Boe in just one rack!! I also have about 25 different Christmas CDs!!!!)
