WEEKLY CHAT (non-osprey) SUNDAY AUGUST 2, 2014

Evening all: More shredding today, then up the ladder to start on the last go at the oranges, but was met by a treeful of ants - yuk! - which everyone is complaining about coz the drought has really brought them out looking for water (join the crowd!). Managed to prune back some inner branches and position the long ladder in preparation for the main event. Really hope we don't get two crops next year!

Brenda: Interesting that meningitis in dogs is so different. Do hope she'll respond quickly - hate to think what it's all costing!

Lindybird: Thanks for reminding me about AQ's "girls." I suspect she's too busy right now to read all our posts - no wonder.

dibnlib: I like the sound of your job.

OG: Oh to be young and off to university in London!

Heather: Sometimes I think water cut offs and a standpipe is what it'll take to make some folks realize how bad things are. People often put gazebo-type structures or privacy lattice fencing around their saunas here; you'd think if your neighbors are making it that small they'd leave an opening somewhere; maybe it'll be just closed on three sides. I'm good at reading upside down too! (Are we nosey or just resourceful?) :-). Wonder if your hairdresser is having personal problems (maybe money problems if she's trying to bring her clients in more often). Still, not something you need to be dealing with. Good luck finding someone else. I've been known to flag people down in stores, compliment them on their haircut and then ask where they get it done. I've got a list of potential places, but don't feel the need to change at this point.

Have a good Sunday all with special thoughts to Margo, of course!

  • Good Morning ALL. A sunny morning after torrential rain yesterday evening and overnight.  ( definitely stair rods, Linda. )

Lovely to hear from you, Diane. I hope you are succeeding with all your thoughts and plans for the future and are keeping well.

AQ, I do feel sorry for your daughter and yourself. My son was exactly like J and I remember being so upset when my mother had to return home after staying with us for six weeks. ( I think she needed a rest) We survived though LOL. Good to hear that you have an escape day planned.

Annette, How lovely that Ms D was able to feed the lamb. I did laugh at your description of your OH underneath the orange tree.

Linda, Sorry to hear about your friend. Hope she recovers soon. I know you must be missing your days out together. Enjoy seeing your son & his wife, plus T, today.

OG, Sorry you are having hip problems, but you do seem to have been very active, recently. Sounds as if J will be very tired when he returns home from camp.

  • Forgot to say that I saw on the BBC breakfast news that today is Boring Day. It seems that Boring in the US and Dull in Scotland became twinned, 9th August 2013. They interviewed a man in Boring, who described how they will be celebrating with pipe bands and dance bands.

  • OG  shame the weather spoiled the fun.

The weather today was nicer than we had thought so very glad we bothered to go down to Loch an Eilein for a walk, followed by a visit to a friend in Tomatin and another walk at Daviot. Stil haven't tired Benson out!!!

  • As it is hen harrier day tomorrow it is good to see the 'Ban driven grouse shooting' petition doing so well. 95 signed in the last hour

    petition

  • Stop the cull exclusive:

"Tonight a story will come out in the Sunday Times that will reveal the shambolic methods of the shooters & the government bodies responsible for the cull.

We now have a huge cache of documents and personal reports, which we will put into the public domain over the coming weeks."

Good evening. Had thundery showers from lunchtime onwards, but we managed to be inside or in the car each time; supposed to have heavy rain later this evening. We started off at a garden centre for a new max/min thermometer ready for winter; we also had a quiche salad lunch. Then we had to return our telephones to Curry’s as one of the handsets has been doing strange things; we had paid for the automatic replacement cover, and they replaced it without any argument (same model). Then we did grocery shopping at Asda (walking, not scooter) for routine food and some which Tesco doesn’t sell, before returning home via hot chocolate at “The Last House in Scotland” café.

Tomorrow is supposed to be a sunny day and we are out for breakfast (!), a fund-raiser for the new church centre building fund. Jonathan will also return tomorrow, then only one full week off before work starts again.

Dibnlib – I see the Lancasters didn’t manage their joint flight today due to the stormy weather.

Lynette – your Daughter is in the same situation as our Son, not being able to fund rent and other expenses for a place of their own. We get on fine, but it must be hard for J when he has previously lived independently. I hope your Daughter has a good relaxing trip to set her up for the new term; J’s was a working holiday, but he still had to pay for it, and the other night had to drive a minor injury to hospital, so more expense for his car.

Annette – do take care on that high ladder – I hope you have OH stand at the bottom to keep it steady when you are picking oranges. I hope you had a good morning visit with your Daughter – did that include breakfast?

Linda – sorry your friend is so unwell again, you must be very worried about her, as well as missing your lunch, cinema or shopping trips. Have a good time with your family, especially the wee lad. “Raining stair rods” was one of my Dad’s expressions, whereas Mum preferred the “cats and dogs” version!

    Have a good weekend, everyone.

OG -  I know what you mean. She is great company and helps me out a lot.  She too is going on a working holiday almost immediately she gets back from her holiday.   A Christian camp - fortunately just up the road from where we are so not far to travel.  Dau also has to pay her way for that too but gets a great deal out of it.  As she won't be arriving till the Monday she has been place with the younger end who are children of the volunteer staff who are attending  but is looking forward to it.

Will we get the storm that is predicted  - if it does hit tomorrow and the cricket is called off we are going to go up to Manchester (dear friends funeral) tomorrow providing it is safe to travel. If not it will be the early set off on Monday morning - and with all that traffic up the M6 hmmmmmm.

Diane - Its nice to know that families are trying to come together more in these austere times and that we can help each other even if only in a small way.

Hope all don't get quite the amount of wind and rain that is predicted but if we do - batten down the hatches and stay safe.  Happy weekend to all and to those feeling under the weather, hope you feel a lot better soon.

  • Also Message for Margo, I have read you are undergoing Chemotherapy  treatment, I am sending my thoughts, love and strength your way.

Annette. so sorry its taken me an age to catch up, I was shocked at the cost of Lightnings tooth removal! There Is no way I can get in Oska's mouth either to clean his teeth, plus I daren't give him too many dental treats, he will end up putting weight on, then the Vet will have something to say.

Also ME is 'Myalgic Encephalopathy, also known as chronic fatigue. Its a long term disabling tiredness, muscular/joint pains, poor sleep, headaches etc, there has always been some controversy about the nature of the condition, some people are quite cynical about it, I have worked with people over the years who would use the word 'ME' quite sarcastically.

There is no test to diagnose the condition it is based on a certain set of symptoms in each individual that can greatly differ in type and severity so I believe.

My OH has managed it well over the years, he now goes to the gym and jogs which is a massive achievement for him.
