Evening all: More shredding today, then up the ladder to start on the last go at the oranges, but was met by a treeful of ants - yuk! - which everyone is complaining about coz the drought has really brought them out looking for water (join the crowd!). Managed to prune back some inner branches and position the long ladder in preparation for the main event. Really hope we don't get two crops next year!
Brenda: Interesting that meningitis in dogs is so different. Do hope she'll respond quickly - hate to think what it's all costing!
Lindybird: Thanks for reminding me about AQ's "girls." I suspect she's too busy right now to read all our posts - no wonder.
dibnlib: I like the sound of your job.
OG: Oh to be young and off to university in London!
Heather: Sometimes I think water cut offs and a standpipe is what it'll take to make some folks realize how bad things are. People often put gazebo-type structures or privacy lattice fencing around their saunas here; you'd think if your neighbors are making it that small they'd leave an opening somewhere; maybe it'll be just closed on three sides. I'm good at reading upside down too! (Are we nosey or just resourceful?) :-). Wonder if your hairdresser is having personal problems (maybe money problems if she's trying to bring her clients in more often). Still, not something you need to be dealing with. Good luck finding someone else. I've been known to flag people down in stores, compliment them on their haircut and then ask where they get it done. I've got a list of potential places, but don't feel the need to change at this point.
Have a good Sunday all with special thoughts to Margo, of course!
Good morning, Annette. Thanks for starting the new thread.
Our herring gulls are red listed birds. Think about that the next time you hear some flaming idiot calling for a cull of them.
ANNETTE - Thanks for starting us off again. BTW,'tis 3rd August here, but it must've still been 2nd in California when you posted!
Waiting for kids to wake up for their breakfast!
Ospreys Rule OK, but Goldfinches come a close second!
Lindybird said:Lynette - nice to hear from you. OG - You sound busy again, with some of the family to stay. We've been enjoying watching The Games, some great performances - BTW, is it me, or do they all look ridiculously young? Of course, one of the divers was only 14, but even the runners and gymnasts look as if they just left their school uniform at home {sigh} - must be me!!!
Sorry to hear you're not well - shall I send Limpy over with something medicinal, plus his cuddly osprey to sit on your knee?
If anyone needs to read a lovely, feelgood thread check out this one from Monkeycheese. Highly recommended.

Well, closing ceremony better than opening (and that wasn't difficult!) I hope our kids thought it was worth the cost and the hassle getting to (by train) and from (by megabus) Glasgow - back here about 1:30am I think!
Hi, all. Just popped in to say hello and leave a post for everyone who's facing adversity.
Annette: I hope your burn is healing well and you have no signs of infection. I've been checking the California fire map regularly, and it looks like you're safe, but your drought appears to be ever worsening. Sending rain energy to you.
Brenda: I'm glad your OH's operation was a success and the new cells are responding well. I hope he's recovering and going from strength to strength. Sorry to hear about Penny, the doggie.
Heather: I hope you had a wonderful time with your brother and family. Hope all is well with you and your OH.
AQ: Those babies are beyond adorable. I hope life will become less demanding for your daughter -- and for you! Congrats on new carpet.
Lindy: I hope your OH's treatment is going well and the side effects are as mild as is possible under the circumstances. I also hope that you recover soon from your cold. Stress has probably taken a toll on your immune system. Take good care of yourself.
Rita: The photo of the two girls dancing was adorable. Lovely photo of Amber.
Tina: Best wishes to your mother.
Dibnlib: Great photos of Benson.
OG: Glad you had a nice holiday and visits with family!
Clare and Limpy: I thought of you both when I saw this video. It's my understanding that the crow (raven?) was fine. http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/newstopics/howaboutthat/11007787/Bear-filmed-saving-crow-from-drowning-at-Budapest-Zoo.html
Hello to Lynette, Alan, jsb, Sue C and everyone who's reading the thread.

MARGO: My thoughts are with you, and I'm sending you best wishes and healing energy.
I saw a wonderful webcam of a cheetah and her newborn cubs. I thought you might enjoy watching it. The cam runs 24/7, color during the day and black & white at night. It's from an Endangered Species Centre in South Africa where they focus on cheetah conservation. It's a rescue/research facility. http://www.africam.com/wildlife/baby_cheetah_cubs_birth_live_channel
Take good care, Margo; thinking of you always!
