Weekly Chat, Sunday, March 21, 2010

Will EJ return this week?  What if another female tries to claim the nest?  Will super-Odin return to fish another year? Or will EJ take another mate (she'd better not!!)  Will YOU be the lucky blogger to catch the first glimpse of an osprey at LG?  Tune in to the Loch Garten LIVE webcam for the first installment of Loch Garten Ospreys - 2010!!

Seriously, lots of interesting chat on the last page or two of the previous week's chatter.  Catch up now because you won't have time once the ospreys are back in town!  :-)

  • Good Night/Morning!

I hope you all are catching a glimpse of Mars, located near to the moon as it's the last we'll see of my ruling planet (I'm an Aries) for 2 years. It's a beautiful sight to see in very chilly and windy Chicago. (We had sand storms on the beaches and Lake Michigan is really kicking up her heels today!)

Ginnie:  Welcome aboard and I hope you have lots of fun amongst us here.

Alan:  Thanks for posting the world bird cam lists. If you look under the U.S. Peregrines you'll find Evanston which is not too terribly far from my home. Once the chicks are ready to fledge there, I plan to visit the nesting area to observe and take tons of photos.

Heather B:   I love your word "panication" and plan to steal it; unless that causes a panication for you.    =O)

Soosin!!!  It seems like forever since you've been here and it's nice to see you back again.

Paul:   Riddle me this: Your Siskin looks much like our American Goldfinch and our Pine Siskin looks nothing like your Goldfinches!   =O)

Diane:  I'm hearing the Twilight Zone theme song in my head now after reading your Scrabble post and also, from the following true tale of weirdness. I had dinner with a friend Wednesday night and she too had a Stephen King kind of thing happen but while she was living in a creaky 100s of years old house. She had just literally finished reading the final page of Pet Sematary late one night when the house let out a loud bang and did I mention her house was located in the historic district of Salem, Massachusetts!! She has never and will never read another Stephen King book again ever. Never, ever!  Or is that Nevermore........................

Okay, now that I've typed that I hope I can go to sleep!

  • Okay, now I really can't sleep after learning there was a Pet Sematary movie starring Fred Gwynne of the Munsters TV show and the judge in My Cousin Vinnie AND Denise Crosby of Star Trek: The Next Generation fame! It's get worse though; they made a sequel!!!!!!!!!! Play the theme song from Psycho now please!

  • Diane and other Owl fans:   Not sure if you'd heard of this Owl cam in the Netherlands but she's got cute little Owlets!  http://www.beleefdelente.nl/oehoe

Yes I have been following that group of cams for a number of years. They usec to include the De Mortel peregrines but not any longer. They are a fabulous set of cams. The ongoing war between the jackdaws, doves and kestrels is amazing.

Paul. I use MWSnap to take snapshots from live video. I am pretty helpless with anything tech. related but if I can use that, anyone can. You can download it (free)

Happy Friday all, hopefully EJ arrives today!

Computer probs earlier - pages taking ages to load.  Picture from LG is pixilated - don't know if that is my laptop or weather/camera problems. (nest is clear background not)

I have been keeping track of events over the winter via the official blog & will continue to read that.

Our weather here is mixed - now it is spring it has been raining everyday, but we had two weeks of beautiful weather before that.

Yes I am in UK but not around/awake to watch nest in "normal" daytime hours.

  • Hi Maureen, Try the link that Annette posted first and let us know the result. You may be on the wrong link, the old one that works by giving periodic still shots or one that is out of date. The 'no signal' warning is not showing on a Google search of 'WMP webcam no signal' for example, which leads me to believe that the 'stills' webcam site is probably what you have. A black image would normally mean that connection was lost, i.e. no signal, which would require a 'refresh' click to restore that connection.

Just tried the wrong link...and here is your screen.....

It is called Woodland feed, if you can make it out above.

'Loch Garten Live Video' is the one you want.

  • Yes indeedie, Caerann , being an enthusiastic ameteur astronomer   :)     I've  been avidly watching Mars for some time. It's really pink (not red) isn't it?  It'll be sad to see it go back in to the dim and distant reaches  of the solar system again..
Do hope work is picking up for you.
