Weekly Chat, Sunday, March 21, 2010

Will EJ return this week?  What if another female tries to claim the nest?  Will super-Odin return to fish another year? Or will EJ take another mate (she'd better not!!)  Will YOU be the lucky blogger to catch the first glimpse of an osprey at LG?  Tune in to the Loch Garten LIVE webcam for the first installment of Loch Garten Ospreys - 2010!!

Seriously, lots of interesting chat on the last page or two of the previous week's chatter.  Catch up now because you won't have time once the ospreys are back in town!  :-)

  • Tiger: I just printed out the map of the sky showing the ISS trajectory for Monday evening - I have 5 minutes to catch it as it passes overhead.  Here's hoping for clear skies!

  • Annette   I do hope you see it.

Meanwhile here is an amazing piece of film. See "The Cat and The Crow" at   http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1JiJzqXxgxo

  • Annette    I have often seen ISS (and the shuttle) pass almost over my house - east to west.  And I could never understand why my neighbours or passers by didn't want to look up too. We have a local weather man who gives out the times of the flyovers. Also:

you'll have to put USA in there or just use the first part of the URL to start you off. Or maybe you already know this in which case, sorry - I'm madly dashing to get out but wanted to see if anyone had spotted EJ yet.  !!   :)

Hope everyone has a good day.

  • Hello all! Sorry for not being active here lately. I`ve been busy with work and stuff and now that all these wonderful cams are streaming… where one can get extra hours for day!?! Read though almost daily bases but haven`t had time/energy to comment/answer, sorry :(  Enjoyed all the chat, pics etc and truly appreciate it all. Hope that each and everyone are safe and happy. Take care all!

Tiger, thanks for the link.  It made very heart-warming viewing.  While i was there I also watched a news item about the friendship between and elephant and a dog - lovely!

Everyone, It's taken all my available time just keeping up by reading my email notifications, without coming on to the forums to read directly and respond!  I hope none of you think I'm being rude.  I'm sure a lot of you are pretty much in the same boat at the moment.  The exitement is really building now in anticipation of the return of EJ and the others, Isn't it?  Here's to a very successful season to all!

    Smiles, Jan.

  • Supposed to be cloudy day, but sunny so far – still mild.  No great bird activity on the feeders, just the regulars dropping by.  No Goldfinches recently – guess they were winter visitors from further north and ours who wintered south have yet to return.  Usual Sunday thank you to Annette for starting us off again – anticipating a very special week!  Tiger – thanks for Cat and Crow link – amazing.  Auntie – we know you are a very busy working person, but we love to hear from you when you have the time, so keep joining in when you can!  Wattle – good to hear from you – hope your autumn gardening is going well.

No plans for today  - will not go to church with OH because it’s the annual business meeting which makes it too long sitting – and I might open my mouth inappropriately!  Could take the new camera out this afternoon – just checked for tide and it looks promising.

Ospreys Rule OK, but Goldfinches come a close second!

  • Good morning original goldfinch nice sunny day here in Poole after nearly 2 days of non stop rain but it really brightened me up when I found an osprey had been spotted at Loch of the Lowes.  I phoned Loch of the Lowes to say someone on this blog had seen it but don't know if Tiger's was the first sighting.  They told me that it was a bit early and they had hoped it would be another week.  Don't know who it was but it was a male.  So exciting now.  Finding it so hard to keep up with all the forums now.  Will have to employ someone to do housework etc for the next 6 nonths.  I don't usually get on line at the weekends but OH is at work this morning, so am sneaking on for a while now.

Thanks Tiger for the link to the video of the kitten and crow, just amazing.  Had a quick look at some of the others as well.

Wishing all a good day with plenty of sunshine I hope.

    Margobird

  • Great bird film on "Country Tracks" on BBC1 right now (11.36am GMT).

  • Good morning, Margobird - sorry your OH has to work today, but pleased it gave you an opportunity to "drop in!"  Spoke too soon in previous post - two Goldfinches arrived on feeder about ten minutes later!

Ospreys Rule OK, but Goldfinches come a close second!

    • ANNETTE. my Mum has Pre Alzheimers and when I asked her about the ring I don't think she even remembered it never mind where it was. We are going down to visit so you never know I might stumble accross it. She has offered me any of her rings apart from engagement, wedding and eternity as her knuckles are too swollen to wear them so it is in my interest to find it. Iwear all of my Aunts rings (one at a time)  When a friend found out how much one was worth her immediate reaction was " you will not wear it of course" but I cannot think of anywhere safer than my finger. Aunt Lily used to wear all her rings at once and it was only when she died that we realized how beautiful they were.
    • Oh doom, if we are away at the weekend we may not see the arrival of an osp at LG. hope it happens soon. and to HERON who I think will be watching for the first time "Hope it all goes well, but let me warn you it becomes very addictive.
