Will EJ return this week? What if another female tries to claim the nest? Will super-Odin return to fish another year? Or will EJ take another mate (she'd better not!!) Will YOU be the lucky blogger to catch the first glimpse of an osprey at LG? Tune in to the Loch Garten LIVE webcam for the first installment of Loch Garten Ospreys - 2010!!
Seriously, lots of interesting chat on the last page or two of the previous week's chatter. Catch up now because you won't have time once the ospreys are back in town! :-)
Good morning original goldfinch I got up very early today to do the household duties (6.00) to be precise as I don't want to miss anything such as EJ's arrival hopefully soon. Managed to log in by 9.30 but nest still emply at LG and as yet I still haven't seen Marje at LOL. Apparently she chased the male off that has been seen so hope Eric turns up soon before she gives up on the wait and mates with another male.
The weather since yesterday afternoon has simply been awful. I really feel as though we are in the monsoon season here. Rain even more heavy overnight and my back lawn is now like a swamp again. As I typle this it is getting ever darker so it looks like more of the same and looking at the weather forecast no sign of improvement. My poor birds must be getting so fed up with all the wet nights they are having. I make OH laugh because I worry about them getting wet. Such a waste of the bird food as well because I won't leave wet food for them. I have one feeder that is under cover but the other is a ground feeder so the food is just swimming about and the suet pellets go into one soggy mass. The has now arrived so there will be a mad dash by the sparrows to get some food down before they go and take shelter, poor little things. I wonder if all this wet weather will have any effect on when they will start to mate. Still have 2 bluetits interested in the nest box so keeping my fingers crossed that after 4 years we will have success.
Hope your weather is better than we are getting and have a good day.
Margobird
Good morning Alan you are correct we are not that far from Weymouth. Hope it moves on fast as it has just started to pour with rain yet again after an absolute deluge overnight. Wonderful sight for whoever saw it. Wonder where it is heading.
Good morning Lindybird. Don't know what your weather is like but it is attocious here. Rain started yesterday afternnon and turned very heavy over night. Back lawn awash yet again and just looked at my daffodils in the front garden getting beaten down by the rain. Such a shame because they should herald Spring but it is anything like here.
Still waiting for EJ and Odin and as yet have not seen Marje at LOL but I am sure when her mate arrives I will at long last get to see her. LOL says she looks in good condition and I can't fail to be amazed by her return once again. The number of miles she has clocked up is beyond belief.
Have a good day and hope our rain is not with you.
Welcome Ginnie and do enjoy this lovely community, such lovely people on it. As you will have seen excitement really building over the return of the LG ospreys, EJ and Odin. It will be a roller coaster ride with highs and possibly lows which can happen.
Hello Ginnie and welcome to the community.
I just saw a great tit beneath a great blob of rain on the nest - the water seemed to magnify it somehow and my heart almost stopped !! Sigh, just a big rain blob with a tiny great tit behind it.

Hi everyone.Very dreich morning here. Although the arival of four siskins acted as a bit of a dedriechulater. Two pairs, acting bouncy and sprightly. Perhaps they're excited about the return of the ospreys. ;-)Annette: Hope you get rid of the aphids and ants problem soon. Nice to hear you and your friend had a nice lunch.patriciat: The dedriechulater would be a great idea. If I could ever patent one I'd be very wealthy man. And that's just between sales in the west of Scotland and N Ireland. Great to hear the class was transferred to a barn.OG: Hope everything goes well with you PCs back up mission. I should probably do the same for my photo and music files. The siskin challenge on the collared dove was hillarious.Ginne: A very warm welcome to you. :-) You'll have a great time posting here. I'm sometimes up very late and often post here in the middle of the night. I like the thought of seeing the ospreys bringing back the first fish of the day.AQ: I know exactly what you mean about TV drivvel. How people can watch that stuff is beyond me.Diane: Hope all goes well with the diet. Not sure if ospreys fly at night or not, so couldn't say whether of not the full moon would have an effect.Lindybird: Sorry to hear about the diesel leak in one of your cars.OG: There was something about Marge on BBC Radio Scotland, this morning. Managed to catch the last few minutes of the piece.Margobird: Really hope your weather clears up soon. Hope the blue tits decide to use your nest box. Here's the siskin from yesterday.
Have a brillant Thursday everyone.
Paul.

Lovely photo of the siskin Heron 77. Weather going from bad to worse here. I am starting to check my feet to see they are turning to webbed feet.
Afternoon all from TI,
Just had another couple of sightings. I will put them on here in case they are you know who.
25/03 13:15 OXFORDSHIRE : Osprey, Banbury [S]probable flew north late morning (11:30)25/03 13:16 CONWY : Osprey, Llandudno [S]one flew over early afternoon (12:50)Heron77 : Great Siskin photo and I also like the idea of the Dedreichulater. I would certainly buy one.
Margobird: Sorry the weather is so bad down your way. It will probably put off any ospreys planning to cross the channel today. You can just imagine them all queueing up in France waiting for the rain to stop. The weather is not too bad here at the moment. We did have some early rain but it has brightened up and is quite warm now. Current temp 15.9c.
some of you may have been wondering about Pilgrim the bald eagle who was mobbed during her daily flight and took fright. She was hand reared and couldn't look after herself in the wild. Her owners said she was probably hiding in a tree and scared stiff, I am glad to say that she was spotted by a bird watcher in Dunblane and she is now safely back at home at the Falconry in Auchterader. Oh I do like a happy ending.
Alan I was thinking the same leave the Engish Channel for today. I had a smile about the ospreys queueing up in France waiting for the off.
