Weekly Chat (non-osprey), Sunday 19 Jan 2014

Simply amazing. Scientists in Tasmania are tracking bees with tiny sensors. The next stage is to shrink the sensor to track fruit fly & mosquitoes.

Temp may be cooler but the high humidity makes it feel just as unpleasant. The bushfires have destroyed at least 15 homes, 425,000 hectares, not to mention stock, crops & fencing. Concern that the first stage of the Tour DownUnder may have to be cancelled as the route is through one of the bushfire areas. Many of the fires, some still not under control, are in areas I have visited or plan to visit on photo excursions. News is much worse when one can picture the scene rather than just another anonymous place in the news. I haven't been out in the car since last Mon and driving to church this morn I felt quite strange.

  • Hi to all

I have been reading all your news and enjoying pics and Monday laughs, thank you.

Nothing much to report from here, have been a bit preoccupied with middle daughter and her woes, wish that I could wave a magic wand and make everything come right for her. It's in the nature of things I suppose that every now and then she gets quite downhearted and angry with her soon to be ex husband. Just now she is more down than angry.

I was delighted to read AQs news though!

  • Heather - Sorry to hear about your daughter. She is bound to have days when it all seems very 'down' but I'm sure that she appreciates your support: just being there, & listening, will be a big help.
  • Good evening, all.  It's getting to that time of the week!!

No, I haven't let Limpy in with a camera yet.

Our herring gulls are red listed birds.  Think about that the next time you hear some flaming idiot calling for a cull of them.

  • Enjoy yourself Clare. Shake and shimmy, LOL

  • Heather, I would think that when a divorce looms on the horizon, you must go through many feelings and emotions. I do feel so sorry for your daughter. It is so good that you are there for her and being a caring Mum, as always. X

  • Good evening! OH is out at a meeting: his last connected with the churches together here (AGM) to hand over the entire secretary’s paperwork at last. I will catch up now as it looks as if our trip may be on for tomorrow.

Trish – do you mean the cameraman Gordon Buchanan: the one who followed the Urban Foxes in Glasgow, Lily the Black Bear and also the Polar Bears – to name but a few? I love his work and the commentary he does with it.

Hello, Heather. That divorce seems to be taking an awfully long time, no wonder your Daughter is feeling low; but you are all such a close family, I am sure that must be helping her, especially being near her Mum!

Clare – I hope you are having a great time at your class this evening, and will suffer less after each successive session.

Well, that seems to be all, so will be back tomorrow evening or on Friday.

Ospreys Rule OK, but Goldfinches come a close second!

  • OH BRENDA, thank you. I would love to make it all better for her but I keep reminding myself that 'no one is dying'. That's my way of trying to put things into perspective ---

  • OG Our posts crossed! Thank you for the support, sometimes we parents feel so frustrated when we can' make things better instantly

Hope you get to go to Gateshead and have a good day.

funny you should say that, Heather: that's a favourite saying of my sis-in-law, who has certainly had her share of life's downers " never mind, nobody died & you can pick yourself up again"
  • I like Gordon Buchanan, too. His love of the animals shines through, & his enthusiasm is catching.
