Italy, Siracusa:
Wednesday, January 1st, 2014 Saline di Siracusa (zona umida IWC) / Siracusa (SR) 1 Osprey (Pandion haliaetus)
[Renzo Ientile]
Thank you Tempo, Sheila FE and Clare. I have looked up for years and have never, ever spotted a glimpse of an osprey in this area although I have occasionally heard about them 5-10 miles away during migration. This summer has surpassed all my expectations. My son & family were watching the ospreys at the same time as I was, as they live nearby.
I should be careful unless you are contemplating doing B and B !!. LOL.
Birdies LG DU update.
WOW! GS how totally amazing and exciting for you and your family
GS, That is fantastic! How wonderful that you saw 3 Ospreys together flying overhead! And had witnesses to back you up!
Kind regards, Ann

Yes it was amazing but no photos unfortunately - it all happened so quickly and the birds did not stay for long. Son & I were on the phone to one another giving each other directions as to where the ospreys were whilst looking through binoculars at the same time!! Given the choice I would rather watch them live than try to get pictures.
GS, I can just picture you--the wonders of modern technology--one hand with the phone and one holding the binoculars! It would not have been possible years ago! And I agree--watching is my priority, too. Unfortunately, I am not a photographer, but I am sooooo grateful when others take photographs for the rest of us to enjoy!
