I have just had a look at Sanibel cam and I see an Osprey has arrived. No idea who it is - is it Ripply from last year or a new bird. I remember last year finding a facebook/blog page about this nest but for the life of me can't remember what it was so can't compare images from last season, so if anyone else can remember......
Starling, I only click on in the morning to see if everything is fine then watch our day cams. Thanks Tiger for reporting when Nellie returned. She was gone at least 45 minutes. I was unable to watch as I had to go out for a wee while but at least all is well.
Thanks for that link CB, bet it makes the guys feel good to be providing food for Nellie & chicks!

Thanks CHLOE Very ingenious
There is another tree beside/near the nest which Nellie sits in and shouts at the hydromen from. She may have been there. She has had no time away from the chicks and nest since 20 June when Nelson died except 1 20 min fishing expedition. She probably just needs a break. When I watched last night our time 11pm it was 30 odd degrees at the nest, so I would suspect warm enough for the chicks at their midnight, when you noticed her missing. The nest is 8; hours behind UK
You make an excellent point LMac. In 2011 when 8 (97) disappeared leaving 5 N (04) sitting on eggs, the team at Rutland tried to assist her by providing fish. However she found the job of having to do all the incubation too much and abandoned the eggs which were then put in an incubator.
Nellie must be finding it hard having to be with the chicks all the time.

Lmac, thanks for all this information, very helpful and I had wondered what the temperature was during the night. I would agree that she needs a break as it's not easy for her at all. Nellie has been off the chicks again for at least 20 mins with wee ones calling to her.
Currently 11c and 91% humidity in Nelson
