I have just had a look at Sanibel cam and I see an Osprey has arrived. No idea who it is - is it Ripply from last year or a new bird. I remember last year finding a facebook/blog page about this nest but for the life of me can't remember what it was so can't compare images from last season, so if anyone else can remember......
Tiger when you have a minute can you tell me what your view is of the current situation in the nest at Nelson. ie how much longer can the chicks go without food & how likely is it that she will take the fish from the platform or should they be putting fish directly in the nest?

Fish has been on trays for quite some time now, but Nellie has not gone to get it. Columbia Wireless just confirmed they will deliver to the nest if this continues. Right now, Nellie is alarm calling!

My view is that they should have put the fish directly on the nest.

Snap Tiger that's what I think also. I am watching the chat but I find it frustrating.
They have sought advice from DOP who have said
"this is often the most effective way to support feed a nest. If humans are constantly visiting the nest itself it may just disturb her too much. Ospreys will take fish from a tray, they will just take some time in getting used to it. Her instinct at the moment will tell her to stay with the nest and the chicks, not to go hunting"
What do you reckon Tiger and Starling?
I still think they should have put one or two in the nest to get them started and then let them get used to the tray, but I'm no expert I just want them to get food. I suppose my emotions are doing the talking.

I am sure that is true but it has been 48 hours and the chicks are starving. They cannot hold out much longer.
The right way forward in my view is do both. Put fish in the nest and on the platform.
I agree with Tiger, do both.
That information was passed on to the mods by someone else before the situation reached this point Choco. It was taken out of context apparently.
ChloeB & Tiger's Osprey Data
Actually I have doubts about the platform fitted. I think that platforms that have worked have been further from the nest.
I agree with you Tiger, we saw it at Loch Garten too, the benefit for sticking some fish directly on the nest. These chicks are still quite small, they can't hold out for this long.
I've just seen that Chloe, about the Dyfi information - the mod repeating it should have made it clear that this was yesterday's advice not today's. Things are now rather more critical!
